SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 235,600, dated December 14, 1880.

A is a perpendicular pipe attached to a pipe leading from an oil-fount. B is a'circular plate provided with chambered or hollow ears or projections C D on opposite sides, and
zo which are connected by a conduit, E, across the under side of said plate at one side of the cent-ral opening therein. F is a central tube, xed in the central opening in said plate B. The said plate B is attached, by one ofthe projections, C, to the aforesaid pipe A.
Depending' from the opposite projection, D, is a pipe, G, having an arm, H, with a socket, I, in which the valve-stem J is screwed for controlling the jet-orifice K, located directly 3o under the central tube, F.
L is a socket at the side of the arm l, in which a valve-stem, M, is screwed, closing an opening, O, leading from the pipe H. An outlet, N, is made in the under side of the socket L. The object of the socket L is to supply a means of discharging` a quantity of gasoline into the heater-cup P below. Heretofore this has been done by opening the needle-valve and allowing gasoline to tlow from 4o the jet-orifice. This has been attended with danger of gasoline spurting up into the tube and burner above and spilling about, while but a portion would fall into the cup. Consequently when fire was set to the gasoline in the cup there was liability offire taking to the gasoline that had overtlowed, and danger re-. sulting therefrom. Q is a cap or shield, fitted onto the socket I and overspreading the cup P. This is designed to catch the smoke from the burning gasoline in said cup and where said smoke is burned or consumed, and thus prevent the smoking and clogging of the upper part of the burner..
Surmounting the plate B is a perforated cap, S. The flames from the lower row of 6o perforations supply heat to the upper surfaces of the chambered projections C'andD. These two points are-where the generation of vapor takes place, and is therefore perfect, being the hottest place, and without detracting from the heat of the burner for the other uses to which it is designed.
We are aware that a rectangular chamber located between the two jets of flame from the perforated cap has been used, and that 7: said chamber has been connected with an induction oil-pipe and an eduction vapor-pipe; but this has detracted m ateria-lly from the efciency of the burner because of its interference with the tlames. This objection is entirely overcome by the use of the chambered projections at the side of the perforated combustion-cap, and just below the level of the lower row of haine-jets. Y
