Description
3.3033333. Pocket Book Handle;
No. 233,703. Patented Oct..2 6,-'I880 WITNESSES: INVENTOR ym M ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT Orrtcnt SIMON SGHEUER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
POCKET-BOOK HANDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 233,703, dated October 26, 1880.
Application filed January 22, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SIMON SOHEUER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Book Handles, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side view of a pocket-book with my improved handle; and Figs. 2 and 3 are,
respectively, a detail side View and a vertical central section of one of the terminal buttons or tips.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
1 5 This invention has reference to an improved handle for pocket-books, satchels, and similar articles.
Heretofore these handles were retained by the ring set the pocketbooks or other articles,
by means of end buttons or tips, which were attached by cross-rivets or by pins with enlarged heads driven into the ends of the handles. These fastenings soon became loose, so as to cause great annoyance and loss.
Myinvention is designed to furnish a reliable and permanentattachment of the tips to the handles; and the invention consists in the combination, with the handle of a pocketbook, of end buttons or tips having at their innor edges projecting lips bent over and forced into the ends of the handle and thus firmly secured thereto.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the handle of a pocket-book, satchel, or other ar- 3 5 ticle, said handle being of any approved construction. B are the terminal buttons or tips of the handle, which are stamped out of sheet metal with a serrated edge, and then drawn into cup shape, as shown in Fig. 3. After the handle ends are passed through the rings of the pocket-book orsatchel the serrated edge is upset in an inward direction by apunchingtool, so as to bite the handle, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The attaching of the tips is accomplished in a quick and reliable manner 5 by the tool even by inexperienced hands. l The teeth of the serrated edge enter into the leather or other material of the handle, and form a durable and very reliable connection therewith, so that the handle can resist ei't'ect- 5o ually the strain to which it is exposed in carrying and using the pocket-book or other article.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- .In a pocket-book, the combination, with the handle, of end buttons or tips having at their inner edges projecting lips bent over and forced into the ends of the handle, and thus secured 6o firmly thereto, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that 1 claim the foregoing as my invention 1 have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 21st day of January, 1880.
SIMON SOHEUER.
