To-insure the escape of theforme'd articles from between the dies while the dies are disengaged, my present invention contemplates an ejector for each movable die which positively ejects or clears the formed articles from between the separated dies.
A work holding collar 24 slidably embraces each of the movable dies and is provided with a flange 25 by which the collar is attached to the cross-head 9 through bolts 26. Each collar.
is urged into the position shown in Fig. 4 by springs 21, and when the movable die enters the stationary 'die the collar yieldingly clamps the work around the dies between the collar and the table I9 under the influence of the springs 21. Upon each of these collars there is pivotally mounted upon a pintle 28 disposed parallel to the die axis, an arm provided at its free end with a cam follower in the form of a roller 3| and carrying in proximity to the roller anejector in the form of a plate 32 extending inwardly from the arm toward the axis of the die. A coiled spring 33 normally urges each of the ejectors toward the axis of its die in a plane perpendicular thereto.
Upon the bed or table l9 there is adjustably mounted a pair of brackets 34, and in each bracket there is adjustably mounted an arm 35 pro- Jecting toward its respective set of dies and 39 by which the arms are locked in adjusted position.
At each operative or downward movement of the movable dies, the cam followers 3! will ride downwardly along the cam faces 31, thereby withdrawing the ejectors 32 from the path of the movable dies, permitting the desired cooperative action between the movable and stationary dies. Upon upward movement of the movable dies, the stamped and formed articles 4| will be carried .upwardly with the movable dies and freed therefrom by the knock-out plungers 23." Simultaneously, as the followers 3l ride upwardly on the cams 31, the springs 33 will project the respective, ejectors across the ends of the dies, so that they will engage and eject or kick out from between the dies, the formed articles. 4|.
This action of one of the ejectors is illustrated in Fig. 4. I
It will be apparentirom the foregoing that I have provided an attachment which positively ejects from between the movable and stationary dies, during their interval of separation, the articles which have been formed thereby, thus insuring against the possibility of damage which would result from failure of the formed articles to escape from between the dies during the brief interval in which the dies are separated one from the other. The attachment may obviously be applied to a single die press or a multiple die press, the principle involved being the same in each instance.
The structural details illustrated and described mayobviously be varied within considerable limits without departing from the scope of my invention as defined in the following claims.
I claim:
1. In a die pressithe combination of a reciprocable cross-head, a plurality of movable dies carried thereby, a plurality of stationary dies positioned to receive said movable dies, ejectors mounted on and movable with the movable dies and adapted to move transversely across the ends of the movable dies, and means for moving said ejectors across the faces of, their respective dies in timed relation with thereciprocable movements of the cross-head for ejecting formed articles from the paths of movement of the movable dies.
2. In a die press, the combination with a stationary die and a reciprocatory die of a collar movable with the reciprocatory die, an arm pivotally mounted on said collar to swing across the face of the reciprocatory die in a path perpendicular to the path of movement of said die, an ejector carried by said arm, a spring for urging said arm across the path of the recipro- 20 catory die, and a stationary cam in the path of said arm for withdrawing-the ejector fromethe path of the reciprocatory; die ,during theapproach of said die towardrthe stationary die,
3. The combination with;;a die press including 25 a stationary die and a. reciprocabledie cooperable therewith, of an ejecting device carried by and-movable bodily withthe movable die, a stationary cam positioned to withdraw the ejecting device from the path of the movable die upon 30 downward movement of the die and device, and means for projecting said device across the face of said reciprocable die at right angles 'to the die axisupon upwardmovement of said die.
4. The combination with, a die pressincluding 351a stationary die and a reciprocable die cooperable therewith, of an ejecting device pivotally mounted upon and movable bodily with: the movable die, aispring for projecting said device across the face of the movable die upon retractive movement of said die to eject an-varticle formed by the dies from the path of movement of the movable die, and a cam positioned in the reciprocating path of said device for withdraw- ,ing the device from the path ofthe movable die uponthe approach of the movable die toward the stationary die.
