Description
(No Model.) T. H. HARRISON.
Coffee Pot. 7 No. 232,817. A Patented Oct. 5,1880.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
THOMAS H. HARRISON, OF MARSHALL, MISSOURI.
COFFEE-POT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 232,817, dated October 5, 1880. Application filed August 5, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS H. HARRISON, of Marshall, Saline county, Missouri, have in vented a new and useful Improvement in Coffee-Pots, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of my invention relates to coffee pots which have filteringbags made of textile material; and it consists of the peculiar device for suspending the bag within the mouth of the coffee-pot.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section of a coffee-pot with my improvement attached; Fig. 2, the filteril'lg bag. and Fig. 3 the device for suspending the bag in the coffee-pot.
The object of my invention is to provide a means of supporting the bag, which will obviate the necessity of using wire rings, as these rings are difficult to keep clean, and are liable to become injurious to health on account of verdigris. For this purpose I construct a circular band, B, preferably of tin but other metal may be used, if desired. Around the upper edge of this band is an outwardly-projecting rim, h, which rests upon the margin of the walls forming the mouth of the coffeepot, and thus supports the band in its place. The band has a continuous groove, m, sunk in the outer side of its walls, within which the mouth of the bag G is secured by means of a draw-string. a, fixed in the upper margin of the bag. The bag G, made of textile material, may have any convenient shape, according to 5 the size or form of the coffee-pot.
The draw-string a, as above described, is
fixed in and around the upper margin of the bag, either by sewing or otherwise, and an opening is left in one side, through which the ends of the string project. The two ends of this string, when drawn, cause the mouth of the bag to contract, so as to fit into the groove in of the supporting-baud, where they are secured by tying. The band with the bag attached is then ready to be inserted into the mouth of the coffee-pot.
The coffee-pot O is constructed with vertical walls; but this feature is not necessary, as it will be readily seen that my improvement is adapted to be used on any coft'eepot of ordinary shape. In Fig. 1, also, the lid, which shuts within the supporting band, is separable from the coffee-pot, but may just as well be attached, provided space is left for the rim h to rest upon the upper margin of the vessel.
I am aware that devices for supporting the bag by means of a flange resting upon the margin forming the mouth of a coffecpot have before been used; I do not therefore claim such a device absolutely; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a coffee-pot, the filtering-bag G, having draw-string a, in combination with a band or collar, B, having an annular groove, m, and supported by the rim 71, substantially as described.
THOS. H. HARRISON.
