Description

lUNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER DEAN, OI JERUSALEM, NEV YORK.
GRINDING APPLES.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 28,231, dated March 15, 1859.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXR. DEAN, of Je rusalein, in the county of Yates, in the State of New York, have invented a new and Ilnproved Mode of Mashing Apples and Vegetable-Seeds; and I hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference lnarked thereon.
The nature of iny invention consists in a new inode of crushing apples, corn or other seeds, when it is not desirable to flour the saine, such as crushing barley, or other grains for lnalt, and corn and other grains for hogs, and cattle.
The letters of reference on the different figures relate to the salne parts.
Figure l, is a longitudinal section of my machine and Fig. 2, is a plan of the saine.
A is the crank, B, the eccentric or nioving power, B2 the frame to which the eccentric journal or shaft B2 is attached, C, the friction rollers, D, the carriage to which the eccentric B, and the connecting rod Gr, are attached.
H is the Crusher, which is attached to the post N, and works on the bolt, or pin O, and conies in contact with the wheel plate I,
the ingredients to be crushed being placed in the bo): I), the connecting rod G, giving inotion to the Crusher H, and arln M, moves the wheel I, and carries the ingredients under the crusher, from whence it passes on through the opening N, in the end of the box I), to the scraper K, and is scraped olf into the vat, or box L.
J, are friction rollers on which the wheel plate or Crusher bed I is made to rotate freely.
E are guides to the carriage D, this carriage D may be worked on friction rollers in very heavy work.
Fig. 3, is a section of the Crusher and wheel I, and the bed piece, on which it rests placed directly under the Crusher H, when the power is applied for crushing.
The advantages derived from this method of crushing are in the combination of the eccentric with the lever, and the horizontal wheel on which the material is crushed and then carried away from under the crusher by the arni M.
Having thus fully described iny inaehine what I claiin as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
V1. The crushing lever H, and horizontal wheel I, constructed as described and for the purpose set forth.
2. I claim the eccentric wheel B, and carriage D, in combination with the Crusher H, and wheel I, when constructed and operated in the manner and for the purposes hereinbefore described.
ALEXANDER DEAN.
