11 Claims. (01. 226-31) My invention relates drums or the like.
An important object of the invention is to provide releasable means for securely mounting a tank or receptacle upon the periphery of the drum, so that the drum may be filled through the end thereof, which means will securely hold the tank upon the drum against improper displacement and will permit of the ready removal of the tank, when desired.
. A further object of the invention is to provide means of the above-mentioned character which is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture. A

This application is a continuation in part of my application for Apparatus for filling oil drum or the like, filed May 10, 1940, Serial No.-334,431.

Attention being called first to Figures 1- to 4 inclusive, wherein the numeral l0 designates a drum such as an oil drum, which is ordinarily cylindrical and is H. The heads and periphery of the drum form annular flanges l2, as shown. The flange I2 extends longitudinally of the drum and also slightly radially of the same, providing a shoulder l3. One head is provided with an opening I3. for filling and this opening is adapted to be closed by the usual plug, not shown. The tank [4 has its periphery projecting downwardly below the bottom I 5 providingv an annular flange l8, and this flange afiords a space for the attaching elements.
Arranged within the flange l8jis a saddle or bar l9, rigidlyattached. to the flange l8... This saddle or bar has a circularly curved face 20, to contact with the upper portion of the periphery of the drum iii. The flange l8 also. has a curved face 20, as shown. Arranged upon the outer side of the saddle or bar l9 are blocks 2|, rigidly secured .to the saddleor bar and to the flange i8. These blocks are spaced from each other and are provided with recesses 22, receiving the flange l2 and having stop shoulders 23. The saddlel9 extends below the top wallsof the re cesses22, to afford a shoulder 23' toengage inwardly of the, shoulder I3.

The o eration of the apparatus is as follows":
The tank I4 is applied to the end" of the drum" l'llf and proje'ots beyond the end of the drum, as shown. The stop element or stop bar 31 is disposed outwardly of the flange l2 adjacent to or incontact with the end oi the flange. The rotary clamping element or cam 32 is-nowturned so that its high portion engageswith and beneath the flange l2. When therotary clamping element or cam 32 is in the active position in engagement with the inner surfaceof the flange l2, theltank l4 cannot be lifted from the drum, while the saddle 29 and stop element or stop bar 31 engaging with the flange I! hold the tank [4' against being shifted longitudinally of the drum in either direction. Thefiexiblehose lT,-oi'- course, is passed into the opening 13'. The combination with a horizontally arranged drum provided at one end with a flange extending longitudinally outwardly beyond the drum, said drum having an opening, of a tank arranged above the periphery of the drum and supported thereby, said tank overlapping a portion of the drum and a portion of the tank extending outwardly beyond the end of the drum, a conduit connected with the tank and adapted for insertion within said opening, and holding means mounted upon that portion of the tank which extends outwardly beyond the end of the drum for engaging said flange for holding the tank against upward movement with respect to the drum, the holding means being movable with relation to the tank without moving the tank upwardly with relation to the drum.-

Apparatus for filling a drum while arranged upon its periphery, said drum having a circumferentially extending flange arranged near the end of the drum and projecting radially outwardly beyond the periphery, said drum also having an inlet opening, such apparatus comprising a tank to be arranged upon the periphery of the drum with a portion of the tank extending outwardly beyond the end of the drum, a saddle secured to the tank and arranged upon the inner side of the flange, a turnable cam mounted upon the tank and disposed upon the outer side of the end of the drum and arranged to engage the flange, means to turn the cam, and a conduit connected with the tank and adapted for insertion within said opening.

Apparatus for filling a drum while arranged upon its periphery, said drum having an end and an opening and a flange extending radially outwardly beyond the periphery, such apparatus comprising a tank to be mounted upon said periphery, a member secured to the lower portion of the tank and arranged inwardly of the flange, a rectilinearly reciprocatory U-shaped latch mounted upon the lower portion of the tank and disposed upon the outer side of said end, said latch being movable into engagement with the inner periphery of the flange, and a conduit connected with the tank for insertion within the inlet opening,

Apparatus for filling a drum while arranged upon its periphery, said drum having an end and an opening and provided with a flange projecting longitudinally beyond the end, said apparatus comprising a tank mounted upon the periphery of the drum, a turnable cam mounted upon the lower portion of the tank and disposed outwardly of said end and arranged inwardly of the flange to engage the inner periphery of the flange, the cam serving to draw the tank downwardly in clamping engagement with the drum, means to turn the cam, and a conduit connected with the tank for insertion within said opening.
11. The combination with a generally horizontal drum having a periphery and end and opening and provided with a flange near the end which extends beyond the periphery, a tank mounted upon the periphery and extending outwardly beyond the same, and a movable element mounted upon the tank for clamping engagement with the flange and adapted to be shifted with relation to the tank without substantially disturbing the assembled relative position of the tank and drum, and a conduit secured to the tank for insertion within the opening.
