'MULTIPLE DISPLAY SHEET HOLDER lFiled Mayas, 1941 INVENTO xfnj v BY aiya f.
Patented Jan. 26, 1943 UNITED STATES faretti @ENCE 9 Claims.
This invention relates to a multiple map holder and more particularly to a holder in the form of a roller with which a plurality of maps, charts or the like are adapted to be associated so that any selected map may be co-nveniently displayed by simply unroliing the curtain assembly.
It is an object of this invention to provide a roller having a plurality of maps or the like associated therewith and having latching or gripping means thereon whereby the respective maps may be connected with the latch for the purpose of displaying a selected map.
It is also an object of this invention to provide a roller type shade or curtain having a plurality of maps attached to the curtain roller or to the curtain, with each of said maps having attaching means adapted to be secured to latchng means so that the map directly behind the one attached to the latching means may be disclosed to View when the curtain is pulled down.
It is a further object of this invention to provide a roller having a plurality of maps, charts or the like associated therewith, having pull connecting means whereby any one of the maps may be connected to the pull means to cause the map to roll up or unroll therewith to permit selected maps or charts to be disclosed to View when the pull means is pulled down.
It is furthermore an object of this invention to adapt a common roller type curtain or shade 5 as a support for carrying a plurality of superimposed maps, charts or the like in a predetermined relation with the curtain so that any selected map may be displayed by connecting the ,Y
map preceding the one to be displayed to a pull latch so that when the curtain is pulled down, the desired map will be displayed while the maps in front of the same will be carried around to the back of the curtain.
It is an important object of this invention to provide an improved combination of a roller curtain with a plurality of maps, charts or the like, whereby any one of the maps may be selected for display by simply pulling down a pull member means which can be connected to the map in front of the one to be displayed.
Other and further important objects of this invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the specification and the Vaccompanying drawing.
This invention (in a preferred form) is illustrated in the drawing and hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front view showing the roller and sheets wound thereon;
Fig. 2 is a vertical, transverse sectional view on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the spring latch or grip;
Fig. 4 is a front elevational view showing another form of the invention;
Fig, 5 is a vertical, transverse, sectional View on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4;
Fig 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5 but showing the latch or spring clip snapped onto the rod of one of the sheets; and
Fig. 7 is a. detail, perspective View showing the manner in which the pull member may be mounted on the outside curtain.
Referring to the drawing in detail, and rst to Figs. l, 2, and 3, the construction shown comprises a spring roller I, which may be similar to an ordinary curtain roller, mounted in brackets 2 secured toa suitable support 3, a plurality of juxtaposed flexible display sheets 4, such as maps, charts or the like, secured to the roller I and wound and unwound with respect thereto, a protective sheet or curtain 5 wound outside the sheets 4, and a flexible pull member Si which passes over and above the roller when the sheets are wound on the roller and which terminates in a connector or grip member 'I for quick detachable connection and disconnection with respect to the end of any selected one of the sheets whereby when one end of the pull member is connected with a sheet and the other end is pulled downwardly, the ends of the selected sheet and of the underlying sheets will be turned over and above the roller and thence downwardly, and the overlying sheets will be unwound and travel downwardly to display the front one of said sheets.
Any usual or suitable construction may be provided to effect the quick detachable connection between the rod and the pull member, such as a spring clip (shown in Fig. 3), having the two jaws 8 and 9 pivotally connected together at lil, and a coil compression spring II acting to close the jaws about the rod I2 at the lower end of a sheet. The protective curtain 5 may be provided with a rod I3, the ends of which engage stop brackets I4 to limit the winding up movement of the roller I. f
The construction shown in Figs. 4, 5, 6 and 7 is in general similar to that shown in Figs. 1 and 2, except that here the protective curtain 5 which forms the outermost layer when the sheets are vwound on the roller is provided with guide clips I5 through which the pull member passes, the clips and pull member being so designed that the pull member may slide easily into the clips.
Instead of the spring clip shown in Fig. 3, a hook may be substituted which may be hooked over the rod I2 to connect the pull member with selected sheet. l
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art and it is desired, therefore, that the invention be limited only by the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. The combination with a roller, of a plurality of juxtaposed flexible display sheets secured to be wound and unwound with respect to said roller, and a flexible pull member which passes over and above said roller and is mounted for longitudinal movement relative to the outside sheet when the sheets are wound on said roller and which terminates in a connector member for detachable connection with the end of any selected one of said sheets whereby when one end of the pull member is connected with a sheet and the other end pulled downwardly, the ends of the selected .wound and unwound with respect to said roller,
and a iiexible pull member which passes over and above said roller when the sheets are wound on I said roller and which terminates in a connector member for detachable connection with the end of any selected one of said sheets whereby when one end of the pullmember is connected with a sheet and the other end pulled downwardly, the ends of the selected sheet and of the sheets wound inside the selected sheet will be turned over and above the roller .and thence downwardly, and the sheets wound outside the selected sheet will be unwound and travel downwardly to display one of said sheets, each sheet having a stiffening rod extending across the bottom thereof, said connector member comprising a spring gripping member for embracing said rod.
3. The combination with a roller, of a plurality of juxtaposed exible display sheets secured to be wound and unwound with respect to said roller, a iiexible pull member which passes over and above said roller when the sheets are wound on said roller and which terminates in a connector member for detachable connection with the end of any selected one of said sheets whereby when one end of the pull member is connected with a sheet and the other end pulled downwardly, the ends of the selected sheet and of the sheets wound inside the selected sheet will be turned over and above the roller and thence downwardly, and the sheets wound outside the selected sheet will be unwound and travel downwardly to display one of said sheets, a protective sheet to be wound outside said display sheets, and means connecting said Vpull member and protective sheet and enabling lengthwise movement of said pull member Arelative to said protective sheet.
4. The combination with a roller, of a plurality of juxtaposed flexible display sheets secured to be wound and unwound with respect to said roller, and a exible pull member which passes but once over `and above said roller when the sheets are ywound on said roller and which is free from `75 pulled relation with respect to the outside sheet and terminates in a connector member for detachable connection with the end of any selected one of said sheets whereby when one end of the pull member isconnected with a sheet and the other end pulled downwardly, the ends of the selected sheet and of the sheets wound inside the selected sheet will be turned over and above the roller and thence downwardly, and the sheets wound outside the selected sheet will be unwound and travel downwardly to display one of said sheets.
