The invention relates to improvements in garments especially adapted fo1` female wear and has for its primary object the provision of an improved garment of the character indicated provided with a concealed pocket which is capable of ready access and highly eilicient in use.

Other objects will appear hereinafter. The invention consists of the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which Fig. 1 is a front view of a slip equipped with a pocket embodying the invention;

Fig. 2 a rear view of the upper portion thereof, with portion broken away, to exhibit a rear view of the pocket arrangement;

Fig. 3 an enlarged section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1;

Fig. 4 an enlarged section on line 4-4 of Fig. 1; and

Fig. 5 an enlarged section taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 1.

The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises a slip I0 of conventional form and having its upper front portion formed of two pieces of material II and I2 secured to the lower skirt portion of the slip along the waist seam i3 and having their inner front portions overlapped as indicated. As will be observed the pieces II and I2 are tapered upwardly from the tops of their over-lapped portions to a peak and shoulder straps are secured to the peaks of said pieces. High darts or tucks I4 and I5 are extended upwardly from the seam I3 and the edges I6 and Il of the front portions II and I 2 respectively are secured as indicated to these darts or tucks thereby forming the sides of a pocket between the overlapping portions of the front portions II and I2. To effect this connection the edge of portion II is secured between the folds of the tuck I5 as indicated at the left of Fig. 3, and the edge of portion I2 is secured against the side of tuck I4 as indicated at the right of Fig. 3. The folds of tucks I4 and I5 are severed in the course of manufacture so that these parts appear as separate parts in this view of the drawing. As will be noted the upper inner edges I1 and I8 of the front portions Il and I2 are inclined inwardly and downwardly across the front of the top portion of the slip the edge I8 extending behind the portion II and being stitched thereto along the inclined seam I9 as indicated. The other inclined edge I1 is left free from the portion I2, thereby forming an upper downwardly and outwardly inclined open top for the pocket thus formed between the overlapping flaps of the portions I I and I2 as will be readily understood. By forming the upper portions of the pieces I I and I2 tapering upwardly to a peak and attaching shoulder straps to said peaks, the weight of objects in the pocket is evenly distributed to said shoulder straps and also serves to hold the opening of the pocket closed.

By this arrangement a concealed pocket is pro. vided in a slip `or undergarment for female wear which is of ready access and highly eflicient in use. The specic form and arrangement of part is a simple and effective one for the purpose.

While I have illustrated and described a preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed but desire to avail myself of such variations and modications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A garment having its upper front portion formed of two over-lapping flaps extending upwardly from the waist portion and secured to each other around their edges except at one side of the top of one flap to provide an opening for the pocket thus formed, the upper portion of said flaps tapering upwardly from the tops of the over-lapped portions; and shoulder straps secured to the peaks of said tapered portions.

2. The garment specified in claim 1 in which a vertical tuck is formed in each over-lapping flap and the edge of the other flap secured thereto.
