relates back to said application Ser. No. 318,929, and to foreign applications corresponding thereto for all dates and rights incident to the filing thereof.
The present invention relates to dish washing machines having a pump for washing liquid, a pump for rinsing liquid, an electric motor for driving said pumps, and an electric heater for heating at least one of said liquids.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a dish washing machine of the type described having a common switch for the control of the motor and the heater and common control means for. said switch and liquid flow control valves permitting an economical and safe operation of the machine.
Further objects of the invention will be apeither side of said' motor. The general structure of the machine is apparent from Figs. 1 and 2.

Secured to a shaft 45 rotatably mounted in the wall of box 40 and carrying within same an manner to be described in the following is a double-armed lever or balance beam 46 disposed immediately below the spindles 21, 30 of valves 26, 29 and connected with each ofsaid spindles by links "and 48, respectively, a pin 49 and 50, respectively, on beam 46 engaging an elongated I slot 5| and 5|a, respectively in the links. arrangement is such that ineach end position of balance beam 46 the one valve is closed and the other open. At its ends a wire 52 issecured to the ends of the beam 46 and passes over. idiercilers 53 to an instrument panel 54 disposed on the front wall of the casing and accessible through shaft 55a of which carries an an opening in a door Ila in the washing table. As will be more fully described in the following, the switch is also=actuated by a thermostat comprising a bimetallic member 65 disposed close by the bottom of rinsing tank 2I and actuating a shaft 66 which passes through the wall of box 49 and within said box carries: an adjusting member actuating the switch. At its free end shaft 66 carries a hand-wheel 61 accessible through an opening in door Ila.
As shown in Fig. 3, control box 49 is by means of screws .10 secured to the underside of motor frame 22. The box has an elongated shape and contains at its one end a terminal block 1| for the motor and at its other end a switch designated as a whole by 12. In the embodiment shown the switch consists of a double pole twoway rocking switch comprising two mercury rockers 13, 14 having each two pairs of contacts which are connected with the source of current, the motor and the heater in a manner illustrated in the wire diagram in Fig, 8,
According to this diagram each of the leading-in wires 44 is connected with the inner contacts 13b, 13c and 14b, 140 of the contact pairs of rockers 13 and 14, respectively, whereas the motor -22 by wires 15 is connected with the outer contacts 13a, 14a of one contact pair of each rocker and the heater by wires 42 with the outer contacts 13d, 14d of the other contact pair of Thus, the motor and the heater 4| are coupled in parallel to the switch which has two contact positions and an intermediate currentless position, each of motor and heater being switched-in in one of said contact positions.

In the position of the switch shown in Fig, 4 rinsing valve 29 is open and washing valve 26 closed. The motor is switched-in, that is the machine is set for rinsing. In this position roller 92 engages right-hand notch 95 in the rocking lever 94 and the switch assumes its right-hand end position. When the machine is to be shifted to washing, handle is turned in clockwise direction as seen in Fig. 2 causing balance beam 46 and thereby follower arm 9| to be turned in counter-clockwise direction in Fig. 4. Thereby rocking lever 94 and, thus, frame89 are released, the latter being turned in counter-clockwise direction under the action of spring 84 bringing with it rocking lever 94 in the same direction by pin 99. Thereby the circuit of the motor is opened. When balance beam 46 assumeshorizontal position (see Fig. 5) follower arm 9| has been turned through such an angle that its roller .92 engages the middle notch 96 of rocking lever 94 locking said lever in this position, in which rocking lever 94 by the engagement of pin 99 locks the switch in the left-hand end position in which the circuit of the heater is closed. .011

In the embodiment shown the switch is, as mentioned above, arranged to be actuated not,
only by valve balance beam 46 but also by thermostat 65 disposed close by the bottom of rinsing tank 2| near heater 4| (see Fig.3). Securedto the lower shank of bimetallic member 65 (see also Fig. 7) is a plate I9| having an angular notch I92. Engaging said notch by its preferably rounded-off end is a rod I93 which passes eccentrically through a disc I94 fixed to shaft 66 and which may 'be lockedby means of a screw I95. Thereby the length of the portion of rod I93 lying outside the disc may be varied and, thus, also the temperature at which the thermostat "re- 65 sponds.
Within box 49 shaft 66 or its extension carries an arm I96 which forms another adjusting member for the switch in the form ofa movable abut-- ment. Arm I96 cooperates with an abutment I91 on frame 89. A spring I98 of a strength greater than that of a spring 84 tendsto turn shaft 66 and thereby arm I96 in counter-clockwisedirection in Fig. 7, abutments I99, II9 provided on the box wall-limiting the turning of arm I96.

In a dish washing machine, two pumps for forwarding a washing liquid and a rinsing liquid, respectively, an electric motorfor driving said pumps, an electric heater for heating at least one of the liquids, a two-way rocking switch having two current carrying positions and a currentless position, electric means to connect the motor and the heater with the switch in such strength of spring Ilil'is greater than that of ill manner as to'cause the circuit of said motor to be closed in one of said current carrying positions and the circuit of said heater to be closed in the other one of said current carrying positions, a flow control valve for each of the liquids, means to control said valves, said control means being rockable in accordance with the rocking motion of the switch, means,to' connect said control means with the switch, and means manually to operate said control means.

respectively, an electric motor for driving said pumps, an electric heater for heating at least one of the liquids, a two-way rocking switch having two current carrying positions and a currentless position, electric means to connect the motor and the heater with the switch in such manner as to causethe circuit of said motor to be closed in one of said current carrying positions and the circuit of said heater to be closed in the other one of said current carrying positions, a flow control valve for each of the liquids, a rocking shaft, a support carrying the switch and mounted on said shaft, another shaft co-axial with said firstmentioned shaft, a rocking beam and a follower secured to said last-mentioned shaft, means to connect said rocking beam to said valves, a rocking lever mounted eccentrically to said last-mentioned shaft and operative by said follower, said rocking lever being formed to provide limiting abutments for the rocking motion of the switch carrying support so as to cause. the circuit of the motor to be closed in both end positions of said rocking beam and to be opened inan intermediate position thereof in which the heater is ner as to cause the circuit of said motor tobe closed in one current carryingposition oi the switch and the circuit of said heater to be closed in the other one of said current carrying positions, a separate valve for the control of the flow of each of said liquids, a rocking beam, means to connect said rocking beam with the valves so as to cause said valves to be opened and closed altematingly, manual means to operate said rocking beam, means to connect said rocking beam with the switch, and means to prevent the switch from assuming the current carrying position in which the circuit of the heater is closed.
6. In a dish washing machine, two pumps for forwarding a washing liquid and a rinsing liquid,
respectively, an electric motor for driving said pumps, an electric heater for heating at least one of said liquids, a two-way rocking switch having two current carrying positions and a curthe motor and the heater with said switch in such manner as to cause the circuit ofsgd motor to be closed in one of the current carry g positions of the switch and the circuit of said heater to be closed in the other one of said current carrying positions, a separate valve for the control of the flow 'of each of .said liquids, a rocking shaft, a
' spring-actuated support carrying theswitch and mounted on said shaft, another shaft co-axial with said first-mentioned shaft, a rocking beam and a follower secured to said last-mentioned shaft, means to connect said rocking beam with the valves so as to cause said valves to be opened and closed alternatingly, manual means to operate said-rocking beam, a rocking lever mounted eccentrically to said last-mentioned shaft and operative on actuation by said follower, said rocking lever being formed to provide limiting abutments for the rocking motions of said switch carrying support so as to cause the circuit of the motor to be closed in both end positions of said rocking beam and to be opened in an intermediate position thereof in which the circuit of the heater is closed, an abutment movable into a position to lock the switch carrying support, whereby to prevent the switch from assuming the current carrying position in which the circuit of the heater is closed, a manipulating member for manually moving said movable abutment into said locking position, and a thermostat responsive to the temperature of the heated liquid or liquids for automatically moving said abutment into said locking position.
