Description

Nov. 24, 1942. A, E SEIGAR 2,302,897
ELECTRIC FIXTURE ATTACHMENT Filed Nov. 13, 1941 r Inventor W 09,36 e7af' Q2 j y'piwwdvm Q Attom ey Patented Nov. 24, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,302,897 ELECTRIC FIXTURE ATTACHMENT Abe E. Seigar, New York, N. Y. Application November 13, 1941, Serial No. 419,001
2 Claims.
The present invention relates to an improvement in electric fixture attachments of a type disclosed in Patent No. 1,790,610 and the present invention has for its primary object to provide novel means for clamping the attachment in position to the cable outlet box.
A further object is to provide an electric fixture attachment of this character of simple and practical construction, which is efficient and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the attachment.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a front elevational view.
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken substantially on a line 5-5 of Figure 1, and
Figure 6 is a sectional view of the attachment in position on the cable outlet box.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the numeral 5 designates a socket member having a bore 6 therein adapted for receiving the BX cable 1 which is secured in position in the socket by a set screw 8.
Projecting laterally from one side of the socket 5 is aclamping lug 9 to the outer end of which is formed an upwardly and outwardly inclined wall Hi, the inner angle of the lug and the wall being joined by reinforcing webs H.
An edge of the box I2 is adapted for insertion between the socket 5 and the wall I0, as shown to advantage in Figure 6 of the drawing, and the lug 9 is formed with an opening l3 adapted for receiving a clamping bolt [4 provided with a nut [5 which bears against the inner surface of the box and is wedged between the wall of the box and the wall [0 whereby to clamp the socket in position to the box, in a manner clearly apparent from an inspection of Figure 6 of the drawing.
; From the foregoing it will be apparent that but a single clamping bolt is necessary for securing the attachment in position to the cable outlet box and the attachment may be secured in position to any portion of the edge of the box without the necessity of providing screw or bolt openings in the box or otherwise altering the construction thereof.
It'is believed the details of construction, advantages and manner of use of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention what I claim is:
1. A cable connector for electric outlet boxes comprising a socket having an opening adapted to receive the cable, a lug extending laterally from one side of the socket, an angular extension on the outer end of the lug, said extension being inclined with respect to the adjacent side of the socket and cooperating therewith to form a channel for receiving an edge of the outlet box, reinforcing webs connecting'the extension and the lug, a bolt threaded in the lug and a nut carried on the bolt and adapted for wedging engagement between the extension and the outlet box forsecuring the socket in position thereto.
' 2. A fixture for attaching an electric cable to an outlet box comprising a part adapted for receiving an edge of the outlet box, wedging means carried by the fixture and engageable with the box for securing the fixture in position thereto and screw means for regulating the wedging means.
