Description
Sept. 1, 1942. H.H|BBARD HANDLE ATTACHMENT Filed May 14, 1941 INVENTOR HELEN M55420 WWW ATTOIZN EY Patented Sept. 1, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HANDLE ATTACHMENT Helen Hibbard, Milwaukee, Wis.
Application May 14, 1941, Serial No. 393,496
2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in handle attachments, and more particularly to a novel combination silencer and hanger attachment.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which when attached to the handle of a broom or the like will help to retain it in an upright position after it has been leaned or set against a vertical surface.
Another object of the invention is to combine the foregoing with an integral hanger element whereby the broom or other similarly handled household implement may be hung from a nail or other means provided for the purpose.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which may be molded in one operation.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side view in elevation of a broom provided with a handle attachment embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side view partly in elevation and partly in section of the same.
Fig. 3 is another side view thereof.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the device.
Fig. 5 is a side view partly in elevation and partly in section of a modified form of the device.
Fig. 6 is a similar view of another modified form of the invention.
Fig. '7 is a cross-sectional view of another modification of the invention shown attached to a handle member.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral It] refers to the device generally, affixed as shown in Fig. 1 to the top end of the implement handle II, and having an integrally molded eye member I2 surmounting the same. The attachment [0 has an enlarged portion [3 at the top thereof, the largest circumference thereof being provided with corrugations l4.
Interiorly of the member Ill, annularly disposed corrugations [5 are adapted to grip the handle member H, to resist displacement of the device. In the preferred form, a resilient material has been found best for the integral molding of the device, and also for the uses to which it is put.
A modification of the invention is shown in Fig. 5, in which a base portion 20, has moulded therein, the metallic eye member 2 I Another modification is shown in Fig. 6, in which a rubber inverted cup element 30, has moulded in the closed end and extending outwardly thereof, the rivet 3|, which latter is apertured at 32 adjacent its end, to accommodate the ring 33.
A simple form of the invention is shown in Fig. 7, comprising a circular member 40, formed of resilient material, and having the enlarged circumference at 4| thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
l. A device of the character described comprising an elongated cup-shaped member of resilient material adapted for attachment to the end of a broom handle or the like, having corrugations annularly disposed about its largest circumference and corrugations within the cup for resisting displacement of the cup-shaped member on said handle, the external corrugations being disposed at right angles to the internal corrugations.
2. A device of the character described, comprising an elongated cup-shaped solid-walled member formed of resilient material, an integral eye formation disposed exteriorly of the closed end thereof, an enlarged annular portion about the vertical axis thereof at the base of said eye formation, corrugations externally disposed and spaced in said enlarged portion about said vertical axis, the said member having spaced internal corrugations encircling said vertical axis.
HELEN HIBBARD.
