2 Claims.

This invention relates to furniture, and more particularly to furniture designed for use by infants.

An important object of the invention is to provide a furniture piece comprising a combined chair and table, the construction of the combined chair and table being such that it will not turn completely over to injure the infant using the furniture, should the furniture be overbalanced by the weight of the child.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character wherein the table will extend around the sides of the chair to the end that the infant will be completely enclosed by the table and back of the chair to guard against the infant falling from the chair.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a furniture piece which will possess all the comforts and utilities of the well known high chair, means being provided for supporting the furniture piece so that it may be readily rolled from place to place.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein described, may be made within the scope of What is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings:

Figure l is a side elevational view of a combined chair and table, constructed in accordance with the invention.

Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 2.

Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the furniture piece comprises a substantially rectangular frame 5, the forward corners thereof being rounded as at 6 so that the furniture piece may be readily moved through doorways unobstructedly.

The frame is constructed of wide material and provides a support for the table I which is fitted therein.

The reference character 8 designates the rear legs of the furniture piece, the upper portions of the legs being fitted in the rear corners of the furniture piece, as clearly shown by the drawings.

The front leg which is indicated by the reference character 9 is positioned at a point substantially intermediate the side edges of the frame 5, at the front of the frame, the upper end of the front leg resting against the bottom of the table, providing a rest for the table.

The legs 8 and 9 are of equal lengths, and are supplied with casters Ill, whereby the furniture piece may be readily rolled over a supporting surface.

The seat of the furniture piece is indicated by the reference character II and fits between the rear legs 8, where it is secured. The back of the seat is indicated at I2 and has its lower edge resting on the seat, the upper end thereof being rounded and extended an appreciable distance above the rear bar of the rectangular frame 5. It will also be seen that the back section is inclined rearwardly, for the comfort of the user.

Secured to the seat II, and having connection with the back l2 at the side edges thereof, are side members l3, the side members 13 being formed with extensions l4 that connect with the foot-rest IS. The extensions 14 extend into notches formed in the foot-rest [5 at the sides thereof, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 2 of the drawings, thereby providing an exceptionally strong structure.

The table I is formed with a cut-away portion it that is disposed directly over the seat ll, so that an infant sitting on the seat, will have free movement of the body.

A strap indicated at I! is secured to the back I2, and affords means whereby an infant seated on the chair, may be strapped to the chair.

Because the furniture piece is comparatively low, and since the front leg thereof is disposed in a line between the rear legs, it is obvious that should the furniture piece be tilted laterally, owing to changing of the weight within the chair and caused by the infant moving from side to side, the furniture piece would not turn completely over, but would rest on its side, the weight of the furniture piece being supported by one of the rear legs and the front leg.

Upon considering Figure 2 of the drawings, it

will be seen that the side edges of the seat por-- tion curve inwardly towards the center of the table, and that the front side edges of the footrest, are inclined inwardly towards the front leg of the furniture piece. This structure also tends to prevent the furniture piece from turning completely over when tilted laterally.

It might be further stated that because the frame 5 is constructed of substantially wide material, the frame provides a flange around the edge of the table to prevent articles with which an infant may be playing, from falling from the table.

What is claimed is:

1. In a furniture piece, a substantially rectangular frame, a table mounted within the frame and having a seat opening, legs secured to the rear of the frame, a seat secured to th legs, side members secured to the seat, a foot-rest secured to the side membrs and being disposed below the seat section, a single leg member secured to the front of th frame intermediat the side edges thereof, the side edges of the seat and foot-rest being inclined towards the forward end of the frame, and said frame extending above the table providing an upstanding flange around said table.

2. In a furniture piece, a substantially rectangular frame, a table having a seat opening, secured within the frame, rear legs secured to the frame adjacent to the rear corners of the frame, a single front leg member secured to the front of the frame intermediate the side edges thereof, depending side members secured to the underside of the table, a seat secured to the side members, and a foot-rest secured to said side members and front leg member below and in advance of the seat.
