This outer wrapping-generally is formed of Cei lophane" and acts to retain the cigarettes fresh until the package isp'pned. With reference to Figure 1a 4cigarette package II'I, in accordance with thishlinflention includes an outer wrappingl or container II of any suitable material, an intermediatel wrapping or container I2 of any suitable material, a vpair of independ-V ent closed inner containers I3, I4, each adapted to contain a division or bunch of the cigarettes which are packed, and an independent opening, tearing-off, ripping or pull member I5 for, each container. The innercontainers I3, I4 are formed from a single web I6 of material possessing a characteristic to maintain the bunches of cigarettes fresh in the inner containers I3, I4 until the inner containers are open. Preferably the web will be formed of Cellophane.

With reference to Figure 3 the web I6 is o?! rectangular form 'and provided transversely thereof with parallel spaced scores I1, I9, I9, 20, 2I, 22. 23 and 24. The scores I1, 24 are spaced equi-distant from the side edges 25, 25 respecfl tively of the web. The latter is also formed lengthwise thereof with parallel scores 26, 21 disposed parallel to and arranged in proximity to the lengthwise edges 28, 29 respectively of the web. The latter is also formed with rows 30, 3I of spaced V-shaped scores which extend outwardly from the scores 26, 21 to the edges 28, 29,.` The scores of the row 30 are oppositely disposed with respect to the scores of the row 3|. The web I6 is also formed with two pairs of oppositely inclined spaced scores, and the inclined scores of one pair are indicated at 32 and those of the other pair 33. The pair of inclined scores are disposed outwardly of and spaced from the ends of said rows 30, 3I. When the web I6 is folded the portion 34 thereof forms a part of the inner side walls of the con'- tainers. The remaining part of the inner side walls of the containers is provided by the portions 35, 36 of the web between the scores 26, 21, I1, 24 and side edges 25, 25'. The portions 35, 36 provide free edges within the containers and such edges are the end edges of the web. The` outer side walls of the containers are provided by the portions 31, 38 of the web I 6 between the scores 26. 21, IH, I9, 22, 23. The front walls of the containers are formed from the portions 39, 40 of the web between the scores 26, 21, I1, I8, 2|, 22. The rear walls of the containers are formed from the portions 4I, 42 of the web between the scores 26. 21, I9, 20, 23, 24. The parts of the web portion 34 outwardly of the scores 26, 21 and between the web portions 53, 55 and the web portions 64, 56 are split as at 69 to form such parts into half portions 69", 69h, 69% 69d. The splits extend from the scores 26, 21 to the edges 29, 29 respectively. The half portion 69a is folded with the web portions 4I', 43, 45, 41, 49, 5I, 53 to provide a part of an end wall of container I3. 'I'he half portion 69b is folded with the web portions, 42', 44, 46, 49, 56, 52, 54 to provide a part of the other end wall ofthe container I3. The half portion 69c is folded with the web portions 55, 51, 59, 6I, 63, 65, 61 to provide a part of an end wall of the container I4. The half portion 69d is folded withthe web portions 56, 58, 60, 62, 64, 66, 68 to provide a part of the other endwall ofthe container I4. When the containers I3, I4 are formed the extended portions `1Ii'of the members I5 projecting in opp osite,direction,s1` from the innerside walls of the containers; I3, I4 to provide for convenient access thereto by",V the consumer for selectively opening an inner .container byu severing off that portion of the container arranged outwardly of a member I5.

'I'hebunches of the cigarettes are indicated ,at 1I 12 and each bunch 4preferably will contain ten cigarettes. One of the opening members I5 .is secured'to the inner faeesilof the web portions 35, 31, 39,' 4I and has its portion 10 seating against the side ledge 25 of the web, arranged against the outer face of web portion 35l and further arranged against the-outer faces of the front and outer side walls of containerV I3 and in this connection attention directed to Figure 2. The other opening member I5 is secured to the inner faces of the web portions 36, 38, 40, 42 and has its portion10 seating against the side edge 25' of the web, arranged against the outer jface of web portion36 and further arranged against the outenfacesof the rear and outer side walls of the container I4 and in this connection attention is directedl to Figure 2. It is readily obvious that the construction of the cigarette package I provides for retaining the cigarettes of one bunch fresh, while -the consumer is using the cigarettes of the other bunch.

With reference to the'modified form of cigarette package 13 shown by Figures 4, 5 and 6 it includes the Awrappings or containers I I, I2 and a pair of inner containers 14, for receiving bunches 16, 11 respectively of cigarettes. The package 13 possesses the same 'advantages as the package I0. The difference between the package 13 and package |0 resides in setting up the inner containers 14, 15 free of each other, that is to say they are not connected together as the inner containers I3, I4 of the package |0. The containers 14, 15 are provided with oppositely disposed opening members 18 of the same form as the members I5. Y e 3 EachV inner container of the package '|3 is formed from a foldable web 19 of' a material possessing the same characteristics as the web |6. 'I'he web 19 may be of square or rectangular contour and as shown by way ofr example as square. The web 19 is formedwith a pair of spaced parallel transversely disposed scores 80, 8| extending from the web edge 82 to web edge 83 arranged inwardly of and disposed in proximity to web edges 84, 85 respectively. The web 19 is alsoformed with Aspaced parallel horizontal scores 88, 81,88 and 89 extending from score 80 to score 8|. 4The scores 86, 89 are spaced inwardly of and in proximity to webv edges 82, 83 respectively.

This manner of securing'the `members 18 to the webs 19 provide for oppositely disposing them relative to the containers 14, 15. The extended -portions Vof the members 18 are indicated at ||5. When the container 14 has been completed the extendedportion I I5 of the member 18 associated therewith will be arranged against the outer face of web portion 93 and the outer faces of the front and outer side walls of said container. When the container 15 has been completed the extended portion ||5 of the member 18 associated therewith will be arranged at the outer face of web portion 92 and the outer faces of the rear and outer side walls of container 15.

Preferably the members'employed for opening the inner containers will be of fabric of ribbonlike form, but it is to be understood that they may be of any suitable form desired.

With reference to Figure 12, it illustrates a foldable blank or web |96 from which the modified form of inner containers |91, |98 (Figure 11) are constructed. The lengthwise edges of the web |96 are designated |99, 200 and the end edges at 20|, 202. The web |96 is formed with a pair of lengthwise extending parallel scores 203, 204 arranged between its longitudinal median and the said edges |99, 200 respectively. In a cigarette package, a pair of normally sealed independentlyopenable parallel closely related inner containers, each adapted for contain# -ing a quantity of cigarettes and including a front, Va, rear, a. pair of end and inner and outer side walls, a severable enclosing means common to said containersan independent opening member ifor each container having a portion vanchored -to the inner 4face of the latter in proximity to one of its end walls and a portion extend-ed from within the container and disposed against and free of connection to the outer face of the body of .the container, said containers being formed from a folded single webof material possessing the characteristic' to maintain the cigarettes `fresh in each container until the latter is opened, and the ends of one container being connected to the ends of theother.containenthesaid portions of said members extended from the containers being oppositely disposed and passing outwardly between the inner side 'walls ol .the ccntainers. f i

In a cigarette package, a pair of normallyA sealled closely related independently openable inner containers each adapted for containing a quantity of cigarettes, said containers being formed from a folded single web of material possessing a characteristic to maintain the cigarettes fresh in each container until the latter is opened, said web having inherent portions thereof disposed in correlated relation for coupling the containers together and constituting an inner wall common to said containers, and a severable enclosing means common to and completely concealing said containers.

5. In a cigarette package, apair of normally sealed closely related independently openable inner containers each adapted for containing a quantity of cigarettes, said containers being formed from a folded single web of material possessing a characteristic to maintain the cigarettes fresh in each container until the latter is opened and including inner side Walls, and said web having a folded portion, intermediate its ends constituting a coupling means between the containers and oppositely extending folded portions correlated with said coupling means providing said inner side Walls. 4

In a cigarette package a pair of normally sealed inner containers each for receiving a quantity of cigarettes and having an inner side wan, said containers being independently severable ar points inwardly of corresponding ends to completel'y remove an end terminal portion thereof and each possessing a characteristic to maintain the cigarettes therein fresh until an end terminal portion thereof is severed to provide for access to the cigarettes, oppositely extendible independently operable tearing-off means for the end terminal portions of the containers, said means having inner portions arranged within and secured to the inner faces of the containers, intermediate portions lying against and extended outwardly from said side walls and outer portions positioned against the outer faces of the containers, said means being located inwardly of corresponding ends of the containers, and a normally closed severable wrapper common to and completely concealing said containers and the outer portions of the said tearing-off means.

In a cigarette package a pair of normally sealed inner containers each for receiving a quantity of cigarettes and having an inner side aasasse wall, said containers being independently severable at points inwardly of corresponding ends to completely remove an end terminal portion thereof and each possessing a characteristic to maintain the cigarettes therein fresh until an end terminal portion thereof is severed to pro-y vide for access to the cigarettes, oppositely extendible independently LAoperable tearing-oil? means for the end terminal portions of the containers, said means having inner portions arranged `within and secured to the inner faces of the containers, intermediate portions lying against and extended outwardly from said side walls and outer portions positioned against the outer faces of the containers, the outer portions of said tearing-off means being of a length to extend onto the outer faces of the outer sides of the containers, said means being located inwardly of corresponding ends of the containers, and a normally closed severable wrapper common to and completely concealing said containers and the outer portions of the said tearing-off means.

8. In a cigarette package, a pair of normally concealed connected together inner containers disposed in inner sidewise relation formed from a single web and each for receiving a quantity ofl cigarettes, said' web having a portion thereof providing a coupling betweenY the inner sides of said containers and having oppositely extending other parts thereof coacting with said coupling to form the innerside walls of the container and an edge within each container, said containers capable of being independently severed at points inwardly of corresponding ends Ato remove an end terminal portion thereof, said web possessing a characteristic to maintain the cigarettes in each container fresh until an end terminal portion is severed to provide for access to cigarettes, oppositely disposed independently operablev tearing-off means for the end terminal portions of the containers, each of said means including an inner portion secured 'to the inner face of a container, an outer portion positioned against the outer face of said container and an intermediate portion bearing against one of said edges and disposed between one of said other parts and said coupling, said means being located inwardly from corresponding ends of the containers, and a normally closed severable wrapper common to and completely concealing said containers and the outer portions of said tearing-ofi means.

9. In a cigarette package, a pair of normally sealed connected together inner containers disposed in inner sidewise relation and formed from a single rectangular web having a pair of end edges each arranged in a container, each of said containers for receiving a bunch of cigarettes and capable of being independently severed at a point inwardly of one end to remove an end terminal portion thereof, said web possessing a characteristic to maintain the cigarettes in each container fresh until an end terminalportion of the container is severed to provide for access to a cigarette, oppositely disposed independently operable tearing-off means for the end terminal portions of the containers, each of said means including an inner portion secured to the inner face of a container, an intermediate portion overlapping van end edge of the web and an outer portion extended from the inner side of the container and arranged against the outer face of the latter, and a normally closed severable wrapper common to and completely concealing said containers and the outer portions of said means.
