Wendling, Cleveland,` Ohio Application May 22, 1941, Serial No. 394,708 2 claims. (ci. ssi-29) This invention relates to a novel greeting card or folder.

It is particularly aimed to provide a construction which is exceedingly simple and economical to manufacture.

It is further aimed to produce such an article wherein a progressive solution of a thought or idea by means of folds and stereoscopic views in combination.

Still further, I aim to provide a structure wherein the stereoscopic effect is attained without the use of relatively sliding or equivalent parts, enabling manufacture of the card without intertting of parts, a construction wherein the section containing the stereoscopic windows need merely be unfolded to a position of use and which section is constructed and arranged to rest upon the nose and relatively close to the eyes.

The more specific objects and advantages will" become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connectionwith accompanying drawings illustrating an operative embodiment.

Figure 6 is a perspective view showing the card or folder unfolded and in position for stereoscopic use.

Referring specifically to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, IIJ designates a sheet of exible material or any substitute or-equivalent, which consists of four sections of the same area at II, I2, I3 and I4, which are foldable to and from the condition of Figure 4, to that of Figure 6. Sheet I0 is preferably a single piece. However, the sections II to |4 may be made separate and of flexible material or even rigid material, and suitably hinged together at I5, I6 and I1.

The exposed face of the section Il, in the folded condition of the card, as shown in Figure 1, preferably has a stage picture delineated thereon which may include a duck and a clown as shown in such Figure 1, the duck being shown at II and the clown at I8.

On the other and normally inner face of the section a picture or scene is delineated also including a duck I'Ia, simulating the duck at II'. On the section opposite duck I1', are the words Do I wish you a while on the same section opposite the duck I'Ia are the words Happy birthday, thus, there is a progressive treatment of the thought involved, which develops as the folder or card is opened or unfolded.

The outer face or surface of the section I3 is adapted to contain the mailing directions and postage stamp.

The section I4 has two openings therethrough which are covered by stereoscopic windows at I9, which windows are of glass, Celluloid or any equivalent material and each of which is of a different'color, one, for instance, being blue and the other red. On one surface of the section I4, the word Look is delineated in such manner that the windows I9 constitute the openings of the letters O, and such letters appear to form a frame held in place by a delineation of a clown at I8' which is a development of or another position of the clown I8 carrying out the progressive development of the wish or thought constituting the theme of the card or folder.

It will be noted that the clown I8 has his feet spread and /that between the same the card has an opening or cut-out 20 of a shape and size to accommodate the nose of an observer, enabling the observer to place the section I4 relatively close to the eyes, concealing and bringing the clown I8' out of view as the section I4 is brought close to the eyes. The edge portion 20', of the section I3, which defines the bottom of the opening 20, is bowed inwardly to conform to the curvature of and t against the upper lip of the observer.

Through the windows I9, with the card or folder in the position of Figure 6, placed on a table or other support or even held in the hands, the observer lifts view sheets 2|, stitched, stapled or hinged in any other suitable way at 22 at the fold line I5. Thus the pictures, views or the like, delineated on each of the sheets 2|,

may be successively viewed or viewed in any desired order through the Windows I9, the difference in color between the windows I9 giving a stereoscopic effect. The pictures or views delineated on the sheets 2| may be two-toned, twocolored stereoscopic views and single view pictures. It should be borne in mind that such pictures may have no relation to each other but at the same time, they may have and one depend upon another so that a story could be told by the successive viewing and unfolding of the pictures. The folder may be used as a toy for movie characters still, animated still, action or cartoon pictures. Obviously, two View or twin pictures may be delineated, instead, on the sheets 2l.

It will be understood that as sold and as received by the addressee, the card or folder will be in folded condition, as best shown in Figure 4, and that in use, the addressee first views the card as shown in Figure 1, then unfolds it to the position of Figure 2 and continues to unfold it to the position of Figure 6, in which he views the pictures through the windows I9, accompanied by operation of the leaves or sheets at l2.

Instead of developing the theme by means of the duck and clown, it is clear that any other characters or substitutes may be employed. Also, the still pictures, play or the like depicted by the sheets 2| may vary as desired and that the card generally may be fashioned for use at Christmas, New Year's, a birthday, Easter or any occasion or date.

Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.

I claim as my invention:

1. A folder of the class described having first, second, third and fourth sections in foldable relation on parallel axes, characters delineated on the exterior of one of the sections, a development of one of the characters delineated on the other face of the same section, a development of another character first mentioned on the fourth section, said fourth section having stereoscopic windows thereon, and stereoscopic picture means for consideration of the said characters in the development of a theme, said means being secured at the fold of the first and second sections for manipulation into parallelism with the fourth section to be viewed through the stereoscopic windows.

2. A folder of the class described having first, second, third and fourth sections in foldable relation on parallel axes, characters delineated on the exterior of one of the sections, a development of one of the characters delineated on the other face of the same section, a development of another character first mentioned on the fourth section, said fourth section having stereoscopic Windows thereon, stereoscopic picture means consisting of a plurality of pictures for successive consideration with said characters in the development of a theme, said means being secured at the fold of the first and second sections for manipulation into parallelism with the fourth section to be viewed through the stereoscopic windows.
