SUPPORT FOR RUBBER SHOES.

SPECIFIGATION- forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,338, dated June 1, 1880.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J. GUY FOREMAN, of Dallas City, in the county of McKean and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Rubber Shoes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in supports for rubber shoes; and it consists in a strap or band, which is attached to the top edge of the rubber on opposite sides, and which band is united at its upper end to a book, which is made to catch over the top edge of the shoe, whereby the rubber is prevented from pulling off at the heel.

It further consists in combining with this strap, which supports the rubber at the heel, a strap to pass over the instep of the foot, whereby the rubber is held more securely to the foot, as will be more fully described here inafter.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple and cheap attachment for rubber shoes, so as to fasten them to the wearers shoes or feet in such a manner that they will not pull off in case the person should step into mud or any other place where there would be the least pull upon the rubber.

Figure l is a perspective of my two devices independent of the shoe. Fig. 2 is aside elevation of the same, showing them attached to the side of the shoe.

A represents a band or strap, which is provided with either the devices 0, to catch over the buttons 13 on the sides of the shoe, or which has button-holes made through its lower ends, so as to button directly on. This band or strap is preferably made of some elastic material, and has attached to it a hook, D, for catching over the upper edge of the shoe for the purpose of preventing the rubber from (N0 model.)

being pulled off at the heel in case the wearer should step into mud, snow, or any other material which would cause a downward pull upon the rubber as the wearer raised his or her foot. These buttons B are secured upon each side of the counter, so that the band or strap supports the foot equally from both sides. Where a boot is worn a small hole may be made in the back part of the leg of the boot, so that this hook can catch in the hole and thus prevent the shoe from being pulled off.

In order to hold the rubber more securely to the foot and prevent it from. being pulled off under any circumstances until the wearer is ready, a second elastic band is used, which passes over the instep of the foot, and which strap is fastened at each end in any suitable manner upon the same buttons B as the band or strap A. The rubber being thus held by the two straps, one of which catches over the top edge of the shoe and the other over the instep itself, it is much more comfortable to the wearer, and there is little or no danger of the shoe working up and down upon the foot or becoming lost, as is now frequently the case.

Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. The combination, with a rubber shoe, of a strap or band, A, which is attached at its lower ends to the rubber shoe, and which strap or band is provided with a hook at its upper end to catch over the top of the wearers shoe, substantially as shown.

2. The combination, with a rubber shoe, of a strap or band, A, provided with a hook to catch over the top of the rear edge of the shoe and a band or strap to pass over the instep of the foot, substantially as shown and described.
