1 Claim.
` desirable.
The primary object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a container of the aforementioned character comprising novel means for reinforcing or strengthening the ends of said container.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a container of the character described which is adapted to be folded or collapsed in a manner to require a minimum of space.
Still another very important object of the invention is to provide a container of the character set forth wherein foldable or collapsible paper bags may be used.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a container for shirts and other articles which will be `comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable' highly eiiicient and reliable in use, light in weight, attractive in appearance and which may bemanufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects A will become apand advantages of the invention parent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate correspondingl -parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a container constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing said container clos'ed.
Figure 2 is a perspective view, showingthe container open.
Figure `3 is a perspective view, showing the mouth of the bag open but with the closure member' in closed position, a corner portion of the device being broken away in section.
Figure 4 container in folded or collapsed position.
Figure 5 is a view in vertical longitudinal section through the container.-
Figure 6 is a detail view in perspective of .the foldable" closure member.
Figure 7 is a detail view in perspective of the bottom or closed. end reinforcing element.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the' invention which has been illustrated comprises a bag of paper orother suitable material which is designated generally by the reference numeral l, said ,is a perspective view, showing the bag being of any desired dimensions. vThe bag I is provided with a closed end or bottom 2, the other end or mouth of said bag being open. As
shown to advantage in Figure 4 of the drawings,- 5 the bag I is adapted to be folded or collapsed in .a conventional manner. 'I'he end 2 of the bag I has adhesively or otherwise v'secured therein a reinforcement 3 of cardboard, heavy paper or other suitable material.
Mounted in the mouth portion of the bag I but spaced from the open end thereof is what may be referred to as a closure which is designated generally by the reference numeral 4. The closure I is of cardboard or other suitable ma- `l5 terial and comprises an integral, marginal flap 5 which is firmly secured in -any suitable manner, as by gluing or stapling, to the inner side of the wall 6 of the bag I. On the free end of the closure l is an integral fold 1. At the fold line 8 of the elements 4 and 1 is a linger receiving opening 9.
The wall 6 of the bag I has formed, in the mouth portion of said bag, an opening or eyelet III. The opening or eyelet I Il is for the 'reception of a fastener II on the outer side of the wall I2 of the bag I.
It is thought that the manner in which the container is used will be readily apparent from a consideration Iof the foregoing. Brieiiy, tofold the container, the closure l with the fold 'I thereon is swung downwardly on the wall 5 in the bag I to the position suggested in dotted lines in Figure 5 of the drawings. With the closure .l in this position the bag I may be readily folded or collapsed in the manner illustrated in Figure 4 of the drawings. i are to be inserted in the container the bag -I is opened and the, closure 4, with the member 'I in folded position thereon, is swung outwardly 40 and downwardly'to the position illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawings, the opening 9 facilitating this operation. 'I'he shirts or other articles may now be conveniently inserted, after which the member l is swung to the position shown in Figure 3 of the drawings.- Then, the mouth portion ofthe bag is closed and secured by inserting the fastener I I -throughgthe eyelet I0. It may be well to here state that other suitable means may be employed' for securing the mouth portion of the bag in closed position. When the container is' in folded or collapsed position the fastener II is preferably flattened out or spread in order to be out of the way.
It is believed that the many advantages of a.
container constructed in accordance with the When shirts or-other articles present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment o! the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed. For example, the invention also contemplates the use of paper bags with cardboard inserts with mere folding of the edges of the bags.
What is claimed is:
A container comprising a collapsible bag open at one end, a closure mounted for swinging movement in the bag adjacent the open end thereof, said closure being of cardboard and including an wauof the bag in a. transverse position, said c10- sure embodying an intermediate section and a free end section coextensive with the intermediate section and foldable against each other, said free end section being adapted to edgewise abut the flap when the closure is in a transverse position for closing the container, said interme' diate and free end sections having an opening integral ap on one end secured atwise to one 15 intheir connecting portion andsaid intermef diate and free end sections of the closure being adapted for arranging in extended relation and foldable in extended form on said flap inwardly of the container.
