This invention relates to a roller adjustment for printing presses.
Ordinarily the inking roller of a printing press is adjustably secured at the ends by a sliding member mounted in a guideway in the frame of the press and having a threaded pin provided with a nut adapted to be advanced against the frame of the machine, or equivalent part, to hold the pin stationary for supporting the corresponding end of the inking roller at the desired elevation. To change the adjustment it is necessary to loosen the nut and tap the threaded pin upwardly or downwardly with a hammer or other tool until the desired adjustment is made and then the nut must be again tightened. This operation is not accurate, is time consuming, and requires the use of a tool.
With the above disadvantage in mind the present invention provides a bracket which is attached to the printing press frame and carries an adjusting screw which swivelly engages the horizontal legs of an inverted L shape hanger arm the vertical leg of which is provided with an opening to loosely engage the threaded pin so that by merely loosening the nut and then turning the adjusting screw the threaded pin may be raised or lowered to effect the desired adjustment without the use of tools and thereupon the nut may again be tightened to preserve the adjustment.
A further object is to provide apparatus of this character which will be formed of a few strong, simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture, and which will not easily get out of order.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

The inking roller is provided with a shaft [2 having an opening l3 therein to receive the pointed end of a threaded pin I4 which adjustably mounts the adjacent end of the inking roller on the frame I I.
In carrying out the invention a collar l5, of substantially hexagonal contour is provided with a circular opening I6 to snugly receive a lug H which is integral with the frame H. The collar is secured to the lug by a set screw 9 or other securing means. The collar is provided with a guideway groove I8 which opens through the top and through the bottom of the collar and slideably receives the head IQ of the threaded pin l4, see Figure 4. A slot 20 is formed in the front face of the collar and communicates with the guide groove l8, to slideably receive the threaded pin M.
An inverted U-shape bracket 2| straddles the collar 15. The lower ends of the legs of the bracket are secured to the collar l5 by screws 22. The bracket is provided at its upper end with a boss 23 having an interiorly threaded bore 24 to receive an adjusting screw 25 which is provided with a knurled head 26.
An inverted L-shaped hanger arm 21 is pro- 29 which swivelly receives a reduced neck 30 formed on the adjusting screws. The hanger arm is provided with a vertical leg 3| which is formed with an opening 32 to loosely receive the threaded pin l4. The vertical arm engages the slotted face of the collar 15.
A nut 33 is threaded on to the threaded pin [4 and clamps the vertical leg of the hanger arm against the collar to maintain the threaded pin in adjusted position.
To adjust the end of the inking roller it is simply necessary to loosen the nut 33 and turn the adjusting screw 25 to raise or lower the hanger to the required adjusted position whereupon the nut 33 may be tightened to maintain the adjustment.
From the above description it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further explanation.
What is claimed is:
In a printing press, a frame, an inking roller, a guide member on the frame having a guideway groove opening through the top and the bottom of the member and having a slot formed in the from; face communicating with the groove, a threaded pin projecting through said slot having a head slideably mounted in the guideway groove, an inverted U-shape bracket carried by the guide member, an adjusting screw threadedly engaged through the upper end of the bracket, an inverted L-shape hanger bar having a horizontal leg swivelly connected to the adjusting screw and having a vertical leg loosely connected to the threaded pin for moving the threaded pin to adjusted vertical position on the guide member when the adjusting screw is turned, and a nut on the threaded pin adapted to clamp the hanger arm against the guide member to hold the threaded pin in adjusted position.
