Description

J. S. GOLD. Show-Gase.
No. 226,995. Patented April 27,1880.
WL-Il ES5EE= I @Zyl/MW UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
JOSEPH S. GOLD, OF WASHINGTON COURT-HOUSE, OHIO.
SHOW-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 226,995, dated April 27, 1880.
Application filed February 10, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH SooY GOLD, of Washington Court House, in the county of Fayette and State of Ohio, have invented cer! screw-cases for hardware-dealers; and it consists in the arrangement and combination of parts whereby the V-shaped drawers are prevented from being pulled entirely out of the case, all of which will be more fully described hereinafter.
Figure 1 is a horizontal section of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section ot' the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of the under side of one of the iron partitions.
A represents a suitable base, upon the top of whichthe round standard or pivot B is secured. In the top of this standard is secured an iron bolt or pivot, C, having its upper end sharpened or rounded off, so as to form a bearing for the upper part of the case.
Through the center of the lower part of the revolving case D is made a round hole, so as to pass down over the top of the standard, and the top part of the case has an iron socket, E, secured to its under side, and which socket catches over the top of the bolt C on top of the standard, as shown.
The hole through the bottom of the case should iit as tightly as possible around the standard, so as to prevent any wabbling of the case while it is being turned around for the purpose of bringing any one drawer or set of drawers to the front.
The frame D is divided by means of vertical partitions into any desired number of sections, and in each one of these sections are placed aseries of V-shaped drawers, F. These drawers are made V-shaped, not only for the purpose of conforming to the shape of the case itself, but so that no expansion of the case or any of its drawers can possibly prevent them from working freely at all times. Each one of these sections is divided horizontally by means of a metallic V-shapcd partition, H, which partition serves not only as a support for the drawer which rests upon it, but each one having a head, I, formed on the under side of its outer edge, so as to catch inside of the drawer tjust below it', also serves asa stop to prevent the drawer from being drawn entirely out of the icase.
Formed on the under side of the central partition, and corresponding to the groove in its top, is a ilange, O, which catches in a notch or recess made in the rear upper end of the drawer, and which flange serves also as a guide to the drawer as it moves back and forth.
Where the drawers are made of sheet metal only, a block of wood or other hard substance may be secured in its rear end, for the purpose of making the drawer stronger, and to have the blocks strike against the stop and prevent injury to the metal.
Where there are no metallic partitions-as above the top row of' drawers-a screw, nail, or other projection may be passed down through the top of the case, so as to catch inside ofthe drawer, and this screw or nail will take the place of the projection which is provided for the drawers on a lowerl level.
On the outer vertical edge of each partition is secured a strip, V, which serves to keep the horizontal partitions H from being drawn out of place when the drawer is pulled out, each partition H being held in grooves inthe faces of the two partitions between which it is placed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. In a revolving case, the combination of the metallic partition H, having the flange O 011 its under side, and the head l, with the vertical partitions in the frame, the strips V, to keep the partitions in place, and the drawer F, having a notch or recess in its'rear end, substantially as specified.
2. rIhe combination of the metallic partition H, having the flange O on its under side, and head I, with the drawer F, having a notch cut in the top of its rear end, substantially as described.
ln testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of January, 1880.
