Description

G. P. HERND ON. Hand Power for Sewing-Machines.
No. 225,131. Patented Man 2, I880.
- NTGIB $76 fi/nklu/ ATTORNEYS M m m UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE P. HERNDON, OE EOME, GEORGIA.
HAN D- POWER FOR SEWING- MACHINES'.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent NO. 225,131, dated March 2, 1880. Application filed July 29, 1879.
that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part Of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a hand-power for sewing-machines, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawing represents a perspective view Of my invention.
A represents a circular disk or plate to be fastened to the under side of the machine-table. This disk Or plate is provided with a slotted post, B, projecting downward, in which is pivoted one end of the lever G.
The lever O is made somewhat in the form of a V, the two arms being, however, curved, as shown, and one arm longer than the other. The short arm is pivoted in the post B, while the long arm is formed with the handle D.
F is a pitman, pivoted to the lever O at its angle, and provided with a series of holes, a,
so thatit can be made to suit different machines.
This pitman is to be pivoted to the regular pitman of the machine. The two pivots are to be fitted sufficiently loose to admit Of free play of the parts.
This hand-power is to be worked by an upand-down movement of the handle.
The disk A and post B are to be made in one piece, and the lever G and its handle are also to be made of one piece.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by GEORGE P. HERNDON.
