tion of a raincoat in which the fastening means of the type referred to will be wholly concealed when the raincoat is in closed position.

Another object of this invention'is to so arrange the slide fastener members .on the garment as to make them concealed when both lapels are turned down or when one lapel is turned down.

Another object of this invention is to secure the tape of one slide fastener member to one side 'of the garment, and to secure the tape of the complemental silde fastener member on the inner surface of the garment, and to mount both slide fastener members a substantial distance away from the marginal edges of both front flaps of the garment.

Another object ofthis invention is to mount both slide fastener members on the front flaps so that they will take a course which is directed towards the middle of the garment as they proceed upwardly to their upper termination.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more particularly described, and the combination and arrangement of parts will be shown in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims which Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several 'views, in which:

as shown in closed position in Figs. 2 and 3, the flap portion l2 is the'inner front flap, and the flap portion II is the outer front flap which overlies the inner front flap when the raincoat is in use.

As shown in Fig. 1, the marginal edges l3 and ll of the front flap portions of the raincoat are straight and lie in substantially parallel relation.

The raincoat ill has a full length opening l5. The slide fasteners used are not the entire length of the coat, because it is desirable to have a portion at the lower end unfastened to permit free action of the body.

This short length slide fastener requires a divisible end type slider connection. The lower end of at least one of the fastener tapes is made so that it may be flexed away from the garment and so that the wearer can readily engage the parts of the separable end connection, as is well known in the art.

As shown in Fig. 1, the flap portion l2ha's secured thereto one of the complementary slide fastener members l6, having a tape l'l sewed to the raincoat fabric. This tape may be secured to a superposed strip of fabric l8. Movable along the fastener member I6 is a slider IS. The fastener member l6 lies in spaced and preferably parallel relation from the marginal edge l3, along a substantial length thereof but has its upper end curved outwardly and terminates adlacent the said marginal edge and at a point close to the neck portion fill.

The flap portion ll has secured thereto a cooperating complemental slide fastener member 21, having a tape 22 secured to the raincoat by means of a superposed strip of fabric 23. The fastener member 2| lies in spaced and preferably parallel relation from the marginal edge it, along a substantial length thereof but has its upper end curved inwardly and terminates at considerable distance away from the said marginal edge, at a point 25 considerably below the neck portion 20 and in alinement with the upper end of the slide fastener member it;

It is to be noted that instead of using the superposed strips of fabric l8 and 23, that I may secure the zipper tape beneath the garment fabric by cutting slits in the fabric (not shown).

As shown in closed position in Fig. 2, the slide fastener in assembled relation terminates at its upper end far to one side of the midportion of the raincoat garment l0.

As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the slide fastener elements remain hidden beneath the flap portion il as represented by dotted lines 3i.

The object of applying the fastening members to the front flaps in the partly straight and partly curved forms described, is to enable the raincoat to fit the body of the user in a form-fitting manner.

The raincoat garment III has a collar 26 and lapels 21 and N. The lapel 21 carries a button 2! and the coat body adjacent the lapel 28 has a Y buttonhole ll to receive said button. In the closed position of the raincoat, one or both of the lapels may be turned down, and as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, In both turned down positions, the zipper or slide fastener remains covered.

In accordance with the patent statutes, I have described and illustrated the. preferred embodiment of my invention, but it will be understood that various changes and modifications can be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claims.

I claim: y

1. In a raincoat having a full length opening and an inner front flap and an outer front flap adapted to overlie the inner front flap when the raincoat is in use,'a slide fastener for detachably attaching said inner and outer front flaps together, said slide fastener including complementary fastening members adapted to be interlocked, one of said complementary fastening members being secured to said inner front flap and lying in spaced relation from the marginal edge of said flap and having its upper end directed outwardly and terminating substantially at the said marginal edge and at a point close to the neck portion of said raincoat, the other of said complementary fastening members being secured to said outer front flap and lying in spaced relation from the marginal edge of said front flap and having its upper end directed and terminating a considerable distance away from said marginal edge and at a point below the said neck portion and in alinement with the upper end of said flrstmentioned slide fastener member, said slide fastener in assembled relation terminating at its upper end far to one side of the midportion of said raincoat.

2. In a raincoat having a collar and lapels, a full length opening and an inner flap and an outer flap adapted to overlie the inner flap when the raincoat is in use, a slide fastener for detachably attaching said inner and outer flaps together, said slide fastener including complementary fastening members adapted to be interlocked, one of said complementary fastening members being secured to said inner flap and lying in spaced relation from the marginal edge of said inner flap and having its upper end directed outwardly and terminating at a point close to the neck portion of said raincoat, the other of said complementary fastening members being secured to said outer flap and lying in spaced relation from the marginal edge of said outer flap and having its upper end directed inwardly and terminating a considerable distance away from said marginal edge and at a point below the said neck portion and in alinement with the upper end of said first mentioned slide fastener member, said slide fastener in assembled relation terminating at its upper end far to one side of the midportion of said raincoat, said slide fastener being covered when one or both of saiclapels are in turned clown position.

3. In a garment of the class described, the combinationof right and'left fronts, a collar and lapels, slide fastener means comprising rows of slide fastener members, said slide fastener members being secured to said right and left overlapping fronts and extending substantially up to the neckline for closing said fronts up to the neckline, said slide fastener members havingv HERBERT SELIB.
