This invention relates to games and is herein disclosed in some detail as embodied in a game played with men on a circular board divided into annular bands by concentric circles, each band lying within a sector of the board, with the bands in the different sectors diiferently colored. The men are also shown differently colored and differently shaped in each color so as to fit correspondingly shaped spaces or openings in the several bands.

Such an arrangement of variously colored areas and variously colored variously shaped men enables children to play a game which calls for no skill beyond quickness in matching shape with shape and color with color, and also enables games of skill to be played by jumping men from place to place and transferring certain men from bands of their proper colors or shapes to bands of some other colors or shapes.

The game is capable of being cheaply manufactured because only six simple colors and six shapes are required to yield thirty-six different kinds of men and bands, thus it is economically produced in quantity and can be sold at a low price.

Other features and advantages will hereinafter appear.

In the form shown a square board l foldable along a central transverse line H, stands on the edge of narrow boards or joists l2 which are suitably secured along near each edge, thus supporting the board clear of the table or floor on which it may be set.

These supporting joists l2, if used, raise the board sufliciently to allow a textile holder or bag |3 to sag in the middle, although it is shown supported by the board l0 just outside the cut out circular center I4, and thus satisfactorily form a pocket or pool l5 in which men l6, l1, l8, l9, 2|), 2| may be dumped for playing certain games.

The center I4 is shown as surrounded by a six-colored circular band 22, every color showing identical spaces 23 in which the men 2| are shown as fitting.

The band 22 is shown as purple at 24 in the sector 25 of the circle of the board illustrated at the left side of the drawing. The band 22 is shown as blue at 21 in the sector 26, next below the sector 25, and as green at 29 in the sector 28, the next sector, as yellow at 30 in the sector 3|, the next sector, as orange at 32 in the sector and as red at 34 in the sector 35 which completes the circle and lies against the sector 25.

The game includes identical spaces 36 in' the band 22 with eight of the spaces 36 in each color 24, 27, 29, 30, 32, 34. In the form shown the man or piece 2|, of acute parallelogram shape fits the spaces 36, and there are eight pieces 2| of each of the colors 24, 21, 29, 30, 32, 34, so that when all the pieces 2| are properly placed on the board l5, every space 36 is filled with a piece 2| of its own shape in the band where it lies.

In the form shown a concentric band 31, blue at 38 in sector 25, lies outside the band 22, and contains spaces 38 in which fit the rectangular pieces 28. The band 31 outside the blue 21 is shown as green at 39.

Outside the band 31 is shown a concentric band 45, shown as green at 4| outside the blue 33, with triangular spaces 42.

Outside the band 43 is shown a band 43, which is shown as yellow at 44 outside the green 4|, and contains spaces 45 in which fit the diamond shaped pieces l8.

Outside the band 43 is shown a band 46, shown as orange at 41 outside the yellow 44, and contains octagon spaces 48 to hold the pieces l'l.

Outside the band 46 is shown a band 49 shown as red at 50 outside the orange 41 and contains square spaces 5| to hold the pieces I6.

Thus the sector 25 may be said to show the spectrum bands of colors, and the sector 26, also shows the spectrum bands beginning with blue and running to purple.

Similarly the sectors 23, 3!, 33 and 35'each show the spectrum colors beginning with a different color.

Thus, as partly stated above, each shaped piece i6, l1, l8, i3, 20, 2| is made as eight pieces of each spectrum color fitting corresponding spaces in the correspondingly colored bands in the respective sectors,-or, as stated above, thirty-six kinds of pieces fit thirty-six kinds of spaces.

The simplest game played on the board with the above described pieces is well adapted to educate small children in rapid recognition of color and form, and may be played as follows:

When two players begin the game each selects one of the sectors 25, 26, 28, 3|, 33 or 35 and plans to fill up all the spaces 36, 42, etc. with men of the proper color and shape.

These men are picked out from the mixed men,

or, if desired, all the men are used, and the men to be played with are dumped into the holder I3.

At an agreed. signal each player tries to pick up and place on its proper space every man he needs. The first player to fill all the spaces Wins.

If desired, and expense is not a primary factor, the spaces may be perforated with suitable openings 52,53 etc. each shaped to receive and fit pegs 54 on the bottoms of the men, there being different shaped pegs 54, if desired, for each band 22, etc. A special form of peg-receiving opening is shown for each band 22, 31, etc. so

that the pegs fit only in their own proper openings and the tops match only their own band in their own sector.

Other games may be played with the same men and board. For example, two may play a jumping game, jumping men over each other in turn, or moving them one space at a time, until all the men have been moved from the bands in one sector to the bands of corresponding color in the adjacent sector on one side.

The first to fill the adjacent sector wins. At-

1 Having thus described certain embodiments of the invention, what is claimed is:

1. A game board including a first band bearing one colar and provided with spaces of one definite shape to receive correspondingly shaped men, a first continuation of the band of still another color and provided with identical spaces, a third continuation of the band of still another color and provided with identical spaces, a second band parallel .to the first band and of one of the other colors and provided with spaces of a second definite shape to receive correspondingly shaped men, a first continuation of the second band of a color unlike the first continuation and provided with, spaces of the second shape, a second continu'ation of the secondhand of a color unlike the colors of the adjacent bands and provided with spaces of the second shape, a third continution of the second band of a color unlike the colors of the adjacent bands and provided with spaces of the second shape, a third band parallel to the'first band and of the color of one continuation and provided with spaces of a third definite shape, a first continuation of the third and of a color of one of the non-adjoining continuations and provided with spaces of the third shape, a second continuation of the color of one of the non-adjoining continuations and provided with spaces of the third shape, a third continuation of the color of one of the non-adjoining continuations and provided with spaces of the third shape, a fourth band parallel to the first band and of the color of one continuation and provided with spaces of a fourth shape, a first continuation of the fourth band of the color of one of the non-adjoining continuations and provided with spaces of the fourth shape, a second con tinuation'of the fourth band of the color of one of the non-adjoining continuations and provided with spaces of the fourth shape, a third continuation of the fourthband of the color of one of the non-adjoining continuations and provided with spaces of the fourth shape, and a set of men a of each shape and color to match the spaces and colors.

2. A claim according to claim 1 in which the bands are concentric.
