3 Claims. (EL zit-11) The present invention is directed to the means provided for securing and uniting a section of a wall to a door buck, window casing, or similar structural element, by the employment of clips which not only afford means for the attachment of surfacing elements such as wall board sections or the like, but also serve to positively attach the wall sections to the door buck or the like.
Further objects and details will appear from the description of the invention in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective View of a clip of the type employed in the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of a door buck showing the clip secured thereto with wall board sections fitted in position; and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view with the wall board sections omitted for purposes of clarity.
The clip comprises a body portion H] which is provided with an inwardly extending slot I l adapted to embrace a channel shaped studding l2 located in adjacent relation to a door buck I3 which is rabbeted to afford shoulders 14 to which the clip is secured in a manner presently to be described.
The unslotted end of the body ll) terminates in a transversely extending channel forming sec tion l5 provided at one end with a downturned attaching tongue l6 having a nailing aperture ll.
The tongue l6 cooperates with a tongue [8 on the opposite edge of the channel forming section to afford a downwardly opening channel for the reception of the edge of a wall board section.
The opposite or slotted end of the body ID is provided with a similar channel forming section l9 having similarly formed tongues, and it will be noted that the attaching tongues 16 occupy an inwardly opposed relation to one another and are properly spaced to abut against oppositely facing shoulders M on the door buck to which the tongues it are secured by nails 20. The tongues l6 are slightly longer than the companion tongues I8 and the nailing apertures are so located as to afford sufficient clearance for nailing without interference from the tongues [8 which occupy the outermost positions.
The channel forming sections l5 and I9 have upwardly projecting inner tongues 2| which coact with similarly formed tongues 22 on the outwardly extending channel forming sections 23 I v that oppositely facing channels are provided on each side of the channel forming sections. On its outer side the channel forming sections are connected by a bridge bar 21', the inner side of the clip, however, being open to closely embrace the rabbeted face of the door buck and bring the attaching tongues into lateral contact with the shoulders thereon.
In use the clip is positioned to bring the tongues It into close abutment with the shouldered faces of the door buck and nailed in position, after which wall board sections 23 are socketed within the upper and lower channels, or if the clip is to be used at the base of a door buck or the like the downwardly opening channel forming elements may be omitted. The wall structure is completed by facings 28 of plaster or similar surfacing material, and the door frame is completed by facing strips 3!] which overlap the joint between the surface finish and the door buck.
The clip shown in Fig. 2 differs slightly from that shown in Fig. 1, in that in place of the slot II the body of the clip on its open side is provided with a recess 3| in the side of the body Ill instead of a slot extending inwardly from one end thereof. In other respects, however, the construction is the same as that first described.
In use the clip is applied to the studding l2 either by slipping it in edgewise of the stud as in the clip of Fig. l, or against the lateral face thereof as in the clip of Fig. 2. In either event the clip fits snugly around the buck, which is properly spaced to bring the tongues it into overlapping relation with the shouldered face of the door buck, so that nails may be driven through the apertures ll, which thus firmly unites the clip to the door buck and also serves to hold and anchor the studding l 2 in properly spaced relation to the door buck.
Thereafter the wall board sections are entered into the channels ailorded for their reception and in position to bring their inner edges into close relation to the rabbeted or shouldered face of the door buck, and after the wall board sections have been thus positioned the wall is finished by giving it a plaster surface and the final trim which overlaps the joint.
By providing the clip with apertured nailing tongues of the character described, it enables the clip to be employed as a connection with the door buck or similar structural element, without, however, in any way interfering with its capacity to serve as a clip for use in positions distantly removed from the door buck and at points where it is unnecessary to utilize the attaching features.
I claim:
1. In combination with a door buck or the like having a shouldered face, a clip provided with a body portion apertured to embrace a studding, a studding standing in spaced relation to the door buck and extending through the body of the clip, channel forming members on each side of the body and each provided with tongues adapted to afford channels and also provided with an apertured attaching tongue abutting against the adjacent face of the shouldered door buck, an attaching device entered through each of said apertured tongues, and wall boar-d sections socketed within the channels.
2. In combination with a door buck or the like having a shouldered face and a studding standing in spaced relation to the door buck, a clip provided with a body portion apertured to embrace the studding and the body portion on each side being provided with a channel forming member having channel forming tongues struck upwardly and downwardly from the edges thereof to afford oppositely facing channels and having a terminal apertured attaching tongue abutting against the adjacent face of the door buck shoulder, an attaching device entered through each of the attaching tongues, and wall board sections socketed within the oppositely facing channels on each side of the clip body.
3. In combination with a door buck or the like having a shouldered face, a clip provided with a body portion apertured to receive a studding, a studding standing in spaced relation to the door buck and extending through the body of the clip, the clip body portion having a channel forming member on at least one side of the door buck and a spaced companion member on the opposite side of the door buck, said members embracing the shouldered face of the door buck and each being provided with an attaching tongue abutting against the side of the adjacent shouldered face, an attaching device entered through each of said apertured tongues, and a wall board section socketed Within the channel.
