It will of course be apparent to those skilled in the art that my invention is not restricted to any particular arrangement of the lock element upon the pull, nor to the particular contour of the pull herein disclosed.

My invention is applicable to sliders and fastener stringers of the metallic as well as of the plastic types, or combinations of metallic or plastic elements may be employed. That is to say, where plastic materials are used in the construction of the slider proper and pull, the pivot pins,
and if desired, the lock element, may be composed of metallic material to provide the required strength and rigidity. However, in some types of fasteners where the stringers are not subjected to excessive stress or strain, all plastic or thermoplastic materials may be employed.
It will appear from a consideration of Figs. 2
' and 3 of the drawing that the lock element or pin I1 is always maintained in a position at right angles to the plane of the tape or the outer wall of the slider, or may be said to be perpendicular thereto, regardless of the position of the finger piece or. pull l3. In other words, this lock element or pin has a definite inward and outward movement and is not capable of swinging movement on the slider, and thus forms a key element fitting between adjacent links of a stringer to positively lock the slider in position and to be unaffected by any stress or strain tending to move the slider longitudinally of the stringers.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A look slider for separable fasteners of the class described comprising a channeled body, a
lug on one wall of said body, said lug having an the channel of said body, a pull, said pull having aforked end portion, a coupling pin mounted .closely adjacent the extremityof the forked end portion of the pull to extend through and operate lock element mounted in the aperture of said wall a channel arranged therebetween, a pull having of the slider, said element being pivotally supported upon the pull adjacent but inwardly of said pin with respect to the extremity of the pull whereby in raising the pull with respect to said wall of the slider, the lock element is withdrawn 4! fromthe channel of said slider.
2. A lock slider for separable fastener stringers of the character described, said slider comprising a channeled body having spaced side walls with a channel arranged therebetween, a pull having 10 pivot means at one mounting end thereof, elongated bearing forming means on one wall of said slider cooperating with the mounting end of said pull and providing pivotal and limited sliding movement of said pull, said wall of the slider ad- 15 jacent and intermediate the ends of said bearing forming means having an aperture opening into the channel thereof, a lock element pivotally coupled" with said pull at a point slightly spaced from the means on the mounting end thereof, 20 and said lock element being movably supported in said aperture and extending into the channel ofsaid slider in predetermined positions of said pull.
3. A look slider for separable fastener stringers 25 of the-character described, said slider comprising a channeled body having spaced side walls with a channel arranged therebetween, a pull having pivot means at one mounting end thereof, elongated bearing forming means on one wall of said 80 slider cooperating with the mounting end of said pull and providing pivotal and limited sliding movement of said pull, said wall of the slider adjacent and intermediate the ends of said bearing forming means having an aperture opening into the channel thereof, a lock element pivotally coupled with said pull at a point slightly spaced from the pivot means at the mounting end thereof, said lock element registering with said aperture and being slidably movable therein in the pivotal movement of said pull between two terminalpositions extending in opposite directions along said slider wall, and the length of said lock element being sufllcient to extend into the channel of said slider when the pull is in either of said terminal positions.
4. A look slider for separable fastener stringers of the character described, said slider comprising a channeled body having spaced side walls with the channel thereof, a lock element pivotally-coupied with said pull at a point slightly spaced from the pivot means at the mounting end thereof, said lock element registering with said aperture and being slidabiy movable therein in the pivotal movement of said pull between two terminal positions extending in opposite directions along said slider wall, the length ofa-Said lock element being sufllcient to extend into the channel of said slider when the pull is in either of said terminal pontions, and the spaced relation of the pivot of said lock element and the pivot forming end of said pull being sufll'cient to provide withdrawal of said lock element from the channel of said slider in the operation of raising said pull from the terminal position thereof;

6. The combination with a channeled slider for separable fasteners of the class described having,
an aperture in one wall thereof opening perpendicularly into the channel of the slider, of a lock element fitting snugly in the aperture of the I slider wall to provide movement of said element only in a direction perpendicularly to the channel of the slider, means controlling movement of the lock element in the operation of the slider, said means comprising a member slidably pivoted to said slider wall, and means fixedly pivoting said member to said element.
7. In combination with a separable fastener slider having an aperture in one wall thereof opening perpendicularly into the channel of the slider, a pull pivoted at one end thereof to said wall of the slider adjacent said aperture, means movably supportingthe pivot end of said pull, a lock element fitting snugly in the aperture of the slider wall and fixedlypivoted to said pull adjacent the pivot end thereof, said pull having pivotal and limited sliding movement with respect to said means, and said lock element operating in the aperture of the slider wall only in a di rection perpendicular to the channel of the slider when moved into operative and inoperative position by said pull.
