IMPROVEMENT IN FOLlO-BlNDER S.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 222,758, dated December 16, 1879; application filed August 16, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAVE WEDEL, of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and Improved F olio-Binder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in the class of binders for folios, or a series of detached leaves, which binders consist of metal strips doubled longitudinally to form lips or clamping-edges, between which the leaves are secured.
My improvement pertains to the construction of the binder, by which one of its lips or jaws overlaps the other, so as to hold the leaves more securely.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents myimprovement applied to bind together several folios, and Fig. 2 is a crosssection of the same on line at 00.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Beferrin g to the drawings, A is the binder, composed of a strip or narrow sheet of metal of the requisite length, doubled longitudinally, so as to form two sides, a a, parallel to each other, and with a space between to receive the folios, and having the edges 1) b folded back against the under side of sides a. Through sides a a are made holes a, the edges of the metal around .the same being bent inward, so as to form biting-edges d. B are the folios, having their folded edges slipped in between sides a a, so as to be clasped therein.
As shown in Fig. 2, the lower side or jaw, a, projects beyond the upper one, a, so that the latter closes behind the turned edge b of the lower jaw. By this arrangement the folio B is clamped much more securely than would be practicable if the jaws'met evenly, inthe usual way. There is also less danger of biting through the outside leaves, so that they may become accidentally severed and detached.
What I claim is- The sheet-metal folio-binder having the edges of its sides infolded, and the lower side or jaw, a, projecting beyond the upper one, (1,;
as and for thepurpose specified.
GUSTAVE WEDEL.
