windows and the like can be used equally as well. The device of my invention, a fastener 21, as
of the base is bent upwardly to form a wall 3l circular edge of the base. Figures 2 and 3 disclose one embodiment of my invention, that of mounting the fastener 21 ,on a removable surface and operatively engaging and securing an adjacent fixed surface. In this embodiment, the fixed surface 36 is the inner free `surface of the member l2, which surface faces across the window. 'Ihe removable surface 31 is the inner face of the frame 2l of a screen or other removable sash which faces into the window and is disposed adjacent and at right angles to the surface 36 when the screen is seated inside the window frame.
The fastener 21 is then operatively secured to the surface 31 by the pivot screw 29. A locke ing screw 38 is then mounted on the surfacev 36 in a spaced position, opposite and at right angles to the pivot screw 29. The head end of the screw 38 protrudes above the surface 36 at a distance suiiicient for the wall 3| and slot 32 to operatively engage with the screw between its head and the surface 36 as the device is turned by hand. When the fastener 21 is rotated by the handle 35 about the pivot 29, the'slot 32 may be engaged or disengaged with the locking screw 38.
By embodying a slanting slot 32 relative to the base 28, as shown in Figure 5, the engagement between the slot and the locking screw 38 produces a camming action which draws the screen frame 2l into tight engagement with its window frame seat. The slot 32 may also be spaced in parallel relation to the base 28, but by so doing no camming action is obtained. This can be offset by locking the fastener as described in the following paragraph.
When the fastener 21 is engaged with the locking screw 38, it may be tightly locked against accidental disengagement by screwing the headA of the lock screw 38 against the fastener wall 3|. Both the pivot 29 and lock 38 are disclosed in the drawing as screw members, but either or both may be any headed member, such as a nail or the like.
The modification of my invention shown in Figure 4 discloses the same members and means for securing a removable sash in a seat formed in a window frame. In this embodiment,'the fastener 21 is .operatively secured to the fixed surface 36 of the window frame member l2 and engages a locking screw 38 which is mounted on the surface 31 of the screen frame. Like the first embodiment of my invention, by turning the handle 35 the fastener 21 is rotatably engaged between the slot 32 and the locking screw 38, drawing the screen into tight engagement with its window frame seat. By screwing the head of each screw 38 against the engaged wall 3l, the fastener is secured against accidental disengagement.
As disclosed in the drawings, four fasteners are used, a pair on each side. Depending upon the size of the removable sash to be secured within a window frame, any number of fasteners, preferably in pairs, may be used on opposite sides or the top and bottom of the removable lsash frame.
It will be apparent that the construction of my improved screen or window fastener is very y. simple and devoid of any complicated arrangements which might get out of order. Moreover, the arrangement may be fitted with any type of removable sash which requires locking means for retaining them within a window frame.
V It will, of course, be understood that numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and it is, therefore, not the purpose to limit the patent granted hereon otherwise than is necessitated by the scope of the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
A lever device for securing a removable sash to a window frame having a headed locking pin projecting therefrom comprising, a metal stamping having a fiat circular base, said base having a central aperture therethrough adapted for association with a xed pivot on the removable sash, a lever handle extending upwardly and away from said base with its transverse axis parallel thereto, and a curved integral wall spaced from said handle and extending partially around and upwardly from the periphery of said base, said wall having a slot extending partially along its length and whose parallel edges are in spaced relation to said base, the blind end of said slot being closer to said base than its open end, the edges of said slot being adapted to receive` therebetween and cam against the headed locking pin
