Patented Oct. 22, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TOY AND DISPLAY FIGURE Max Hermann, Chicago, Ill.
Application July 13, 1939, Serial No. 284,172
4 Claims.
This invention relates to toy figures, display figures and the like.
One of the objects of this invention is the provision of a toy or display figure which may be readily bent to assume various poses and which will retain any pose into which it has been bent until arranged to assume a different pose.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a toy or display figure which is readily securable on a horizontal, vertical or angular plane surface, in any position, and which is readily removable therefrom when so desired.
More specifically it is an object of this invention to employ in the production of an article of the character referred to, deformable means having attached at the extremities thereof, suction cups which are adapted to grip on a plane surface.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of con struction .and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a toy or display figure, in accordance with this invention, showing the figure secured by one leg section to a vertical plane surface.
Fig. 2 is a vertical cross sectional view of the figure shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a modified form of the toy or display figure representative of an animal.
Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral I0 designates generally, the frame work comprising a body portion and arm leg and head portions secured thereto.
The body portion I2 is formed of wood or other suitable material and is drilled, as shown in Fig.
tion are formed of a single section of wire, the arms I6 and I1 being integral with the legs I8 and I9 respectively. A loop 20 is provided in each section of wire substantially intermediate its ends. The wire sections are adapted to be alined with Q the'intersection of the bored apertures I4, in the body portion I2, so that a screw 22 will enter the loops 20 of the sections and anchor said sections in said body portion.
The terminal members 24 are provided with {0 central recesses 25 for receiving the end portions of the arm and leg sections which are secured therein. Conventionalsuction cups 26 are suitably secured to the terminal members 24 and are adapted to grip a plane surface when applied 15 thereto. The suction cup can be applied to any fiat surface whether on a horizontal, vertical or angular plane and same will support the entire toy through its corresponding leg or arm.
The head portion 21 is constructed of wood or other suitable material and is provided, at its base portion, with an aperture 29 to receive the neck portion indicated by the numeral 28. The neck portion 28 is formed of a section of wire, similar to that previously described, and is adapt- 5 ed to be received in a suitable aperture 33 provided in the body portion I2. An eye 30 formed at the end of the neck portion 28 is engaged by a screw 3| which anchors the neck portion 28 in the body portion l2. An elongated plug member 32, representing the nose of the figure, is adapted to be received ina suitable aperture provided in the head portion 21. A suction cup 34 similar to that previously described is secured on the head section 21 and in addition to serving its normal function also serves as a decorative head piece for the head section.
The toy or display figure herein described may be attired in any desired manner, but it is preferred that the leg sections be independently attired so that the bending range of the leg section may not be limited.
In Fig. 5 is shown a modified form of the toy figure representative of an animal. The manner of construction is substantially identical to the toy figure above described except that slight modifications have been made to adapt it for its new purpose, such as the addition of a tail section and the substitution of a longer neck section.
It is thus seen that I have provided a figure 50 which is adaptable for use either as a toy or a display figure, said figure being capable of being bent to assume and to retain natural or grotesque positions until arranged to assume different positions and being securable by means of suction cups to a horizontal, vertical of angular plane surface and to remain so secured until removed when desired. As understood the entire toy can be supported by one or more: of the legs or arms and can also be used as a display mount by posi tioning a tray on one of the other suction cups.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention, herewith shown and described, is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to. without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A device of the character described includin deformable members adapted for bending to desired configurations, means on the ends of said members for detachably securing same to a plane surface to support said device on said surface, said device being readily removable from said surface.
2. In a toy of the character described compristesque configurations, a suction cup on the end of each said members adapted for detachably securins said toy figure by one or more of said members to a horizontally, vertically or angularly disposed plane surface.
4. A device of the character described comprising a body portion having intersecting bored apertures therein, deformable wire sections, said sections adapted to be anchored in said body portion and to serve as limb members, suction cups mounted on said wire sections and adapted to grip a plane surface when applied thereto to secure said device to said surface.
