IMPROVEMENT IN TREADLE-POWER MECHANISMS Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 221,846, dated November 18, 1879 application filed June 4, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB MILLIRON, Jr., of Nashville, in the county of Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Treadle-Power Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap, convenient, and eifective foot-power motor for the operation and running of all kinds of light machinery, such as sewing-machines, scr0ll-saws, lathes, &c.
In the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts, Figure 1 is a side view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top view. Fig. 3 is a view of the catch 0.
A is a frame, made of wood or iron, and of the shape as shown in the drawings. B is a fly-wheel attached to and revolving with the shaft H. G is a lever turning on the shaft H. H is a shaft, to which is attached the fly-wheel, and on which the lever 0 turns. G is a connecting-rod, connecting the catch D and the treadle I, and attached to catch D by screws or bolts. I is a treadle, held in position by being fastened to the frame by bolts or pivots F. Kisa spring, fastened to the frame at L by bolts or hooks, and to the treadle I, as shown in Fig. 1. m is a balance cast with lever O. D is a catch, attached to or connected with the lever O by screws or their equivalents, as shown in the drawings. E is a metallic ring attached to or cast with the flywheel B.
The manner of operation is as follows: The power is applied by the foot upon the treadle I. When the treadle I is pressed the rod G is drawn down, which brings the catch D upon the circumference of the ring E, whereby the ring E and the fly-wheel B are t-urned, and the machinery attached to the shaft H or the fly-wheel B is operated.
My machine is so constructed that the catch D will always be pressed upon the ring E at a point beyond the highest point of the circumference and in the direction of the treadle,
