Description

A. PLATT. Watch-Regulator.
No. 221,606. Patented Nov. 11, 1879.
WITNESSES: INVENTOR:
%JMMMV i BY MOM/WM ATTORNEYS.
LTHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALOYS PLATT OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN WATCH-REGULATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 221,606, dated November 1]., 1879; application filed September 30, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALoYs PLATT, of the city, county, and State ofNew York, have invented anew and Improved \VatcltRegulator, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 represents a plan of the device. Fig. 2 is an enlarged side elevation of the device. Fig. 3 is an enlarged (partly sectional) side elevation of the band that retains the screw of the regulator in place. Fig. 4 is an enlarged plan view of the regulator-screw.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to provide a means for more easily and accurately moving and adjusting the regulator-lever of a watch.
The invention consists of a screw set upon the regulator-lever and engaging in a screwgroove that is made in the regulator-bridge, so that by turning the screw the lever may be easily and delicately adjusted.
In the drawings, A represents a watchplate, on which is fixed the bridge B, upon whose face the screw-groove a is formed. 0 is the regulator-lever, that is pivoted on the bridge B in the usual manner. The screw 1) has a groove or channel, b, cut around its barrel, for the accommodation of the bow c of the clamp E, by which it (the screw D) is held down upon the regulator-lever (J, and so as to engage in the screw-groove a, and this channelb, which embraces the lever (l, also permits the end of the saidlever to extend through the socket h of the clamp E, and beyond it to the scale (I, that is marked on the bridge B.
The nicksf in the head of the screw D serve for the insertion of a pin or other instrument to turn the said screw D to the right or left at will, so as to move the point of the regulatorlever G in either direction. I
The clamp E is slipped upon the lever O and held in place by the screw g. By moving the lever O in one direction the effective length of the balancespring is decreased and the beats or pulsations are shortened the balance moving quicker. By moving the leverinthe other direction the effective length of said spring is increased, so that if the watch is too fast the movement is corrected.
I am aware that watch-regulators have been moved by worm-wheels and racks, and by various other devices; but I know of none that are operated by mechanism so simple and effective as mine. Hence Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The channeled screw D and bowed clamp E, in combination with the regulator-lever (J, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The bridge B, provided with screw-groove a, in combination with the regulator-lever O, channeled screw D, and bowed clamp E, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. The within-described bridge B, regula tor-lever O, screw D, clamp E, and watch-plate A, in combination, substantially as herein shown and described.
ALOYS PLATT.
