Description

F. SEBRING' BOTTLE HOLDER Filed Aug. 8, 1939 Patented Sept. 17, 1940 UNITED STTES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to means for holding containers, and more particularly to a holder in which a bottle or other container of beverages or the like easily may be placed and from which it can be removed for pouring or consumption of its contents.
It is an object of the invention to provide an article of this kind that can be manufactured economically, that is arranged to receive and permit withdrawal of glass bottles without danger of breakage, and that easily may be hung on the bottom of a door opening of a motor or other vehicle and in any other suitable place, in convenient reach of the user.
Like reference-characters refer tocorresponding parts in the views of the drawing, of which- Fig. 1 is a front elevation;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation;
Fig. 3 is a bottom view;
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 44, Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the base on reduced scale.
The device includes a circular dish-like base having a bottom 6 and a peripheral upwardlyextending side or flange I that is deflected inwardly, the; base preferably being of metal. A cushion-ring 8, of cork, rubber, or other suitable material, is positioned in the base and held therein by the inwardly-deflected flange 1, the ring extending above the upper edge of the flange.
Spring fingers 9 are disposed outside and around and extend above the base for grasping and holding a bottle A or like on the base. Each opposite two fingers advantageously may be made of a single piece of metal bent to provide between them a transverse lower member I 0, which is disposed under and is connected with the base bottom 6. The fingers may carry cushions to prevent injury to a bottle or other container while it is held by them or being placed between them and withdrawn therefrom. These cushions desirably may be rubber encasing-tubes II as shown.
The base and the fingers carried thereby are supported by normally upright arms I2 connected to the base and substantially parallel with the vertical axis thereof. The arms are formed in thein upper parts with outwardlyextending hooks I3 by which the device may be hung on the bottom of an automobile window opening or in any other suitable place. Each arm 12 has a laterally-extending foot l4 that is substantially horizontal when the device is in hanging position. The two feet M are connected to a transverse member l5 that extends under and is connected to the base bottom 6. Each of the arms l2 and its hook and foot may be made by bending a single piece of metal, and both arms and the transverse connecting member l5 also may be produced by bending a single piece of material.
The transverse parts I!) of the fingers lap and cross one another under and at the centerof the base, and the connecting member 15 of the arms I 2 is disposed under them. These members are held together and connected to the base bottom 6 by a single central rivet IE or other suitable fastener. In order to prevent swinging of the fingers on the single fastener, the members Ill and [5 may be soldered tog-ether.
When the device is to be used, a bottle of beverage may be inserted between the fingers 9 and then placed within easy reach of a customer by hanging in a place convenient to him. The consumer of the beverage then easily may withdraw and replace the bottle. The cushions II on the fingers protect glass and other fragile containers from damage, and the base cushion 8 prevents container breakage even when movement thereof into place rapid or relatively violent. When the bottle is empty, the device holding it may be removed.
I claim: 1. A holder for bottles and like containers comprising a base on which a container may v 'bers, and a fastener connecting said transverse members and base together.
2. A holder for bottles and like comprising a circular base on which a container may rest, spring fingers around and extending upwardly above said base to grasp the side of the container, transverse members carrying said fingers crossing one another below said base; means for supporting said holder formed of a single piece of material bent to provide normally upright arms disposed in substantially the same plane, a hook on the upper part of each arm, a laterally extending foot on the lower part of each arm, and a transverse beam connecting said feet extending under the place of intersection of said transverse members; a fastener extending through and connecting together said base, transverse members, and beam, and means to prevent relative swinging movement of said transverse members on said fastener.
