IMPROVEMENT IN PLAlTlNG-MACHINES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 221,264, dated November 4, 1879; application filed April 8, 1879.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JESSE H. ALLISON, of New Vienna, in the county of Clinton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plaiters, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists in a plaiter having certain novel features of construction, whereby it is rendered more durable, convenient to handle, and more ornamental.

The construction willbe described in connection with the accolnpanyin g drawings, wherein Figure l is an inverted plan View of the improved plaiter partially broken open at one side. a a are the side frames of the plaiter, attached together by the end strips, 1), which parts are of sheet metal.

The side frames, to, are bentinto tubular form lengthwise, and the ends of the wires care entered within the aperture between the adjoining edges of each frame a, whereby the wires are supported on their upper and lower sides. The wires are further secured by soldering.

The tubular side frames render the plaiter stiff, to prevent bending, and it is more ornamental than when formed with straight sides.

The special advantage of this construction consists in the support which the wires receive upon their upper and lower sides, whereby they are retained more securely in place.

In plaiters heretofore made, wherein the wires are held only at one side, the soldering soon breaks, and they become loose and misplaced but by my improved construction they are clamped between the two edges of each side frame and cannot be misplaced by pressure from either direction.

The wires 0 may be arranged in pairs, as shown, or in any other desired or necessary manner, and the manner of using the plaiter, being well known, need not be described.

The above-described construction furnishes a neat, cheap, and durable plaiter, and in a form convenient for use.

Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The improved plaiter, consistin g of tubular side frame, a, end strips, 1), and wires 0, combined as shown and described.

2. In a plaiter, the side frames, a, bent in tubular form, and lapped upon the upper and under sides of the wires, as and for the purposes specified.
