Description
July 23, 1940. o. v. MAKELA 2,209,128
TOILET ARTICLE Filed Jan. 9. 1959 Inventor 0. V. MAKELA A torneys Patented July 23, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in toilet articles and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an article of this character 5 which includes a comb having a groove in its rear edge and a nail le held in the groove and provided with a fingernail cleaning point which is located above a recess in the rear edge of the comb.
13 Other objects of the invention are to provide a combination article of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly emcient and reliable in use, compact and which may be manufactured 15 at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a. view in side elevation of an embodiment of the device.
Figure 2 is a view in end elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional View, taken substantially on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the reference numeral I designates generally a comb of any suitable material. The comb I, as usual, includes a back 2 and integral ends and teeth 3 and I, respectively. A groove is formed in the top or upper edge of the back 2 and a ngernail le 5 is held in said groove with its major part projecting therefrom. At one end, the file 5 terminates in a nail cleaner 6. Beneath the cleaner 6, the comb back 2 is recessed, as at I9. A pin 1 positively anchors the file 5 in the back 2 of the comb I.
It is thought that the manner in which the article is used will be readily apparent. 'I'he vcomb I, of course, is used in the usual manner.
When the :fingernail ille 5 and the nail cleaner 10 6 are to be used the comb I functions as a handle or holder therefor.
What is claimed is:
In a device of the class described, an elongated handle forming member having a substantially straight edge portion formed with a longitudinally extending groove therein and one end of said edge portion having a recess therein, said recess including a short end wall arranged at right angles to the straight edge portion and a longer bottom Wall which extends from the short wall to the adjacent end of the handle forming member and lies in a plane parallel to the plane of the straight edge portion, said groove passing through the short wall, a nail le having an edge 25 portion tting in the groove with one end of the file tapered to form a fingernail cleaner with said cleaner portion passing through the recess with its pointed part spaced from the bottom wall of the recess and means for attaching that part 30 of the ille in the groove to the grooved part.
