Serial No. 217,247 In Germany November 28, 1938 c Claims. (01. 4e- V-zo1') This invention relates to a mechanical toy vehicle in the form of a motor car or the like.

The invention consists in that, within a toy motor car without spring motor but provided with runner wheels, a second small toy motor car with spring motor is inserted which, after a predetermined time, is propelled out of the larger motor car through the intermediary of a rotating cam disc, a two-armed lever and by spring pressure. and then tows the larger motor car. A toy motor car constructed in this manner aiiords great amusement to children.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. 1 shows in side elevation the two toy motor cars teiescopedone within the other.

A body work 3 is fitted on a chassis I equipped with runner wheels and has two upright frames 2 one on each side. The chassis I has a partly open space 4 between the irames'l. A box 3 with car It has a nose I3 which engages in the aperaperture 5 is fixed on the underside of the chassis I, whereas a plate 8 acted upon by spring 'I is slidable on the chassis I and has a striker II having an aperture III; said striker being bent downwards at an angle and projecting through an aperture 9 in the chassis I. This striker II is adapted to strike under the action of the springs 1 against an anvil I2-ilttedon the chassis I. r The plate 3 and the striker II are held down by the rear wheel axle I3. The radiator bonnet II of the car 3 can befolded up on a hinge to allow the introduction of the car ll. The winding pin I9 of the springinotor It carries an eccentric disc 2| having an outwardly bent nose 20. This nose alternately lifts and releases a two-armed lever 22, 23 oscillatable on the spring motor I 5. This two-armed lever-22, 23 cooperates with the nose 2U oi disc 2i to release the car It from the car}. The car It has at its rear end a strap 24 in which a hitch plate 25 (Fig. 5 is inserted. This plate 25 has notches 26 one on each side which engage in incisions 21 of the bent up frame 2 of the chassis I of the larger car 3 when the small car It has been pushed out of the car 3, with the result that the two cars are coupled. Consequently, the smaller car hauls the larger car which has no-spring moton', On the chassis Il-of the car It abum'per bar 23 is fitted which engages in downwardly 1 bent flaps 28 on the chassis I. This arrangement serves to ensure the correct introduction of the small car in the larger car.
The operation is as follows:
In position of rest the small car II is within 15 I the larger car 3, the nose I8 of the car II being engaged in the aperture 5 of the box 6 of car 3. The striker plate II acted upon by the springs '1 is then pulled forward and its aperture III slipped over the nose I3 0! car II. A percussion cap is then placed on the anvil I2. When this has been done, the spring motor I5 of car I l is wound. Both cars are then placed on the ground and are propelled by the spring motor. As the cam disc 23, 2| rotates, the front arm 22 of lever 22, 23 is raised and its rear arm 23 lowered. As the disc continues to rotate the arm 23 presses against the chassis I with the result that firstly the cap firing device is released and secondly the driven wheels 33 of car It are raised from the go ground. Both cars 3 and I3 now come to a standstill and the spring motor continues to run. The cam disc 2i continues to rotate and presses the arm 23 further down until the nose I3 disengages'froni the aperture 5 in box 6 and releases 3 the motor car It from the car 3. A blade spring 3| or any other suitable device fitted on the body 01' the car 3 and tensioned during the insertion oi car II precipitates forward thecar II which in pressing the radiator bonnet outwards leaves thelarger car 3. The, hitch plate 25 connected to car I4 participates in the forward movement until the notches 26 engage in the incisions in the upright frames 2. The larger car is then hauled by the small car until the motor has run down. 5
II the bonnet I3 is again raised, the car I3 can be returned into the car 3. The nose It. engages the aperture 5 oi box 6 thereby locking the car II in the car 3. The spring is at the same time pressed backwards and brought into 59 tensioned position.
If it is not desired to haul the car 3, it is only necessary to disengage the hitch plate 23 from strap 24 of the small car It. The connection between the two cars is then lacking; The larger 5 car I without motor remains standing, whereas the smaller car It continues to run until its motor has run down. However both cars can be run together without being separated. For this purpose a latch 32 is pivoted on the hitch plate 25 and raises and locks the lever arm 23. Consequently, the other'arm 22 of the lever is out of the range of the nose disc 2|.
Other toy vehicles such as a toy motor bus and tractor, may be used instead of toy motor cars.
I claim:
l. A mechanical toy comprising in combination a motorless toy vehicle, a second vehicle smaller than and adapted to be accommodated in said motorless vehicle, means for locking said small vehicle in said motorless vehicle, a motor in said smaller vehicle for propelling the same, a cam disc driven by said motor, a two-armed lever acted upon by said disc to disengage said lock- 20 ing means, means in said motorless vehicle for expelling said smaller vehicle, and means for automatically connecting said motorless vehicle to said smaller. vehicle at the expulsion of the latter. g
2. In a mechanical toy as in claim 1, a chassis of the smaller vehicle, a nose on said chassis, a box on the motorless vehicle having an aperture adapted to'receive said nose to lock said smaller vehicle in said motorless vehicle and acted upon by the two-armed lever to release said nose.
- 3. In a mechanical toy as specified in claim 1,
a chassis of the motorless vehicle, a chassis of the smaller vehicle, runner wheels on said last mentioned chassis driven by said motor and adapted to. propel the vehicles fitted one in the other, a nose on said chassis, a box on the chassis of said motorless vehicle having an. aperture adapted to receive said nose to lock said smaller strap and having notches one on each side, up-
rightside chassis frames on the motorless vehicles each having an incision adapted to automatically engage with one of said notches at the expulsion-of said smaller vehicle to connect the 'two vehicles.
5. In a mechanical toy as specified in claim 1, a bonnet hingedly mounted on the motorless vehicle adapted to swing upwards at the expulsion of the smaller vehicle to allow the passage of said smaller vehicle from said motorless vehicle.
6. A mechanical toy as specified in claim 1, in which the connecting means between the two vehicles comprises a strap on the smaller vehicle, a hitch plate removably inserted in said strap and having notches one on'each side, upright side chassis frames on the motorless vehicles each having an incision adapted to automatically engage with one of said'nctches at the expulsion of said smaller vehicle to connect the two vehicles, and a catch oscillatable on said a hitch plate'and adapted during the insertion of said smaller vehicle into said motorless vehicle to press the two-armed lever out of the range of the cam disc to prevent the disengagement of the locking means.
