Description

March 12, 1940. L, PRAGALZ Er AL 2,193,206
CUSPIDOR Filed Oct. 3l, 1938 Inventu 1'1 5 and L Ecx Fr'agaIz FPanK.J F=1-'E|Ea1z Patented Mar. 12, 1940 nire Application October 31, 1938, Serial No. 237,880
1 Claim. (Cl. 4--275) naar Ourinvention refers to cuspidors, and its particular object is to provide a simple, economical,`
and conveniently arranged cuspidor, especially adapted to be countersunk in floors.
A specific object of our invention is to provide a conical cuspidor having a Water supply ring at its top inconjunction` with a Waste-pipe and a removable funnel nested therein, the same terminating with a discharge in the form of a restricted waste and a flared or `bell-mouthed terminal, whereby the flow of water is silenced, the funnel being readily removable for cleaning purposes, it being understood also that this peculiarly arranged removable funnel will eliminate to a degree choking of the drainage pipes.
With the above and other minor objects in view, the invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described with reference to the accompanying drawing and sub.
sequently claimed. In the drawing:
l Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation of a sanitary cuspidor embodying the features of our invention, parts thereof being broken away and in section to more clearly illustrate structural features.
Figure 2 is a magnified, fragmentary plan view `oi a detailed portion of the cuspidor.
Figure 3 is a plan of the cuspidor on a reduced scale, the View being partly broken away and in section to illustrate structural details.
Referring by character tothe drawing, I represents a rectangular flange having a reinforcing rib l', the flange being formed with a circular opening and having walls depending therefrom to form a conical basin 2. The bottom'of the basin terminates with an outwardly flanged discharge mouth 3 adapted to be bolted or other` wise secured to a waste-pipe s, which waste-pipe is provided with the usual goose-neck trap portion 5. Brazed or otherwise secured to the upper flanged edge of the basin is a ring 6 having bottom discharge apertures 6 spaced about its circumference for the discharge of Water, which is supplied to the ring by a pipe 'l having a shank which projects through the Wall ofthe basin. This pipe is provided with a check valve 'I' and a control valve 8. The control valve 8 is' coupled to hot and cold water supply pipes S and 9', respectively. Hence, by selective movement of the valve 8, either hot or` cold water may be delivered to the ring 6.
The conical walls of the basin 2 are offset slightly, as indicated at 2', thus forming a seat for a funnel il?, which is dropped into the basin and snugly nested against its walls to form an uninterrupted flow surface. The lower end of the funnel is formed with a restricted discharge mouth i l which extends into the waste-pipe, and this mouth, from its restricted portion, is ared outwardly `Vith its terminal edge walls in close proximity to the related edge Walls of the drainipe By this arrangement, coarse refuse that may be thrown into the cuspidor is more or less confined at the restricted mouth of the funnel, while at the same time there will be suiiicient space to permit uninterrupted iiow of rinsing Water, and owing to the fact that the end of the funnel is iiared outwardly at its discharge mouth, the cleaning water will noiselesslyitrickle into the waste-pipe. Hence, it will be seen that the strucf ture as a whole can be readily fitted to an opening in the iloor, and, when so fitted, will be flush with the top thereof, whereby stumbling over the device will be eliminated.
When itis desired to cleanse the cuspidor, the funnel lil can be readily removed and cleared of any loose coarse substances' that may have congregated therein. After it has been cleaned, it is again dropped into position. It will be noted that the surface of this funnel may be highly polished or enameled to avoid adhesion of Waste products ordinarily dropped into a cuspidor.
While we have shown and described our sanitary cuspidor minutely as to details, it is understood that such details may be Varied within the scope of the claim.
We claim:
A cuspidor comprising, a conical basin terminating with a flanged discharge mouth, the conical wall of the basin being oifset to form a depressed seat, a waste pipe secured to the basin mouth flange, a perforated supply ring secured to the upper edge of said basin, a removable funnel fitted into the depressed basin seat to form an unbroken surface with reference to the top portion of the basin wall, the discharge mouth of said funnel being reversely flared to form a drain lip terminating in juxtaposition to the walls of the waste pipe, whereby the restricted throat of the 'funnel will retard coarse waste products while the uid wastes will be drained by capillary attraction towards the walls of aforesaid Waste pipe.
