Another object of the invention is to provide a fingernail polish protector to the fingernail so that the polish may dry evenly and the customer is prevented from touching the fingernail in order to determine whether or not the polish is thoroughly dried. a

Another objectof the invention is to provide a fingernail polish protector so that the customer can use her hands without any danger of smearing the polish while waiting forrthe fingernail polish to dry.

Another object of my invention is to provide a fingernail polish protector that does not interferewith the drying of the polish in any manner whatever.

Another object of the invention is to provide a fingernail polish protector which may be readily applied to, or removed from, the end'of a finger without any danger of smearing the polishl.

My invention has many other objects, advantages, and features, some of which, with the foregoing, will be set forth at length in the following description where I shall outline certain formsof the invention, which I have selected for illustration in the drawing accompanying and forming a part of the present specification. In the said drawing, I have shown certain forms of'my invention, but it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to such forms, since the invention, as expressed in the claims, may be embodied in a large plurality of forms.

Referring to the drawing:

Figure 1 is an elevational view of the fingernail polish protector positioned on a finger.

Figure '2 is a perspective view of the device shown in Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a perspective view showing a modified form of the resilient member in natural position.

The fingernail polish protector may consist of three parts, a resilient member l0, and gripping members II and I2;

The member l0 may be substantially U-shaped in form and is provided with upper l3 front I,

and lower li portions, which in position form a shield for the fingernail. The sides I6 of said shield arev open as clearly shown in the drawing. Each side of the upper portion, I3 is provided with an arm I! which extends downwardly as indicated at l8 and then rearwardly as indicated at l9. Each side of the lower portion I5 is provided with an arm 20 which extends upwardly as indicated at H and then rearwardly as indicated at 22. 1

The gripplng' member II has downwardly extending side portions 25 on each ofv its sides, and

said portions 25 are provided with slots 26 which are adapted to receive the outer ends of the arms 2l. The connecting member l2 has upwardly ex- 1 tending side portions 21 on each of its sides, and said portions 21 are provided with slots 28 which are adapted toreceive the outer ends of the arms The member to may be formed otaluminum alloy or other suitable resilient material and in naturalposition may be in the form shown in Figure 3. The connecting members I] and I2 may be formed of rubber, Celluloid, cloth or other similar material.

The connecting members H and I2 are then placed in position by inserting, the arms 20 and I! in slots 26 and "respectively. After said connecting members II and I2 are in position, the arms I! and 20 are thereby prevented from returning to their normal position.

In order to position the fingernail polish protector over the end of a finger, pressure is again applied to the upper I3- andlower l5 portions of the resilient member III in order to force the arms I! and 20 apart. The protector is then placed in-position over the end of the finger. As the pressure onthe resilient member is released, the arms l1 and "tend to resume their natural position, thereby securely positioning the fingernail polish protector on the finger.

In order to remove the fingernail polish protector from a finger, pressure is again applied to the upper l3 and lower it portions of the respaced a substantial distance from the shield when the fingernail polish protector is in position. As also clearly shown in the drawing, I prefer to have the arm 20 extend rearwardly to almost the second joint of the finger, and to have the arm I! somewhat longer, extending rearwardly to the second joint of the finger. This construction insures 'a secure gripping action and yet does not interfere with'the movement of the finger to any appreciable extent.

In Figure 3 I have shown a modified form of the resilient member ID. In this modification, the upper front portion, front portion l4 and lower front portion of the resilient member I! are all provided with a plurality of holes 3| in order to facilitate the movement of air and thereby the drying action on the polish.

The remainder of the construction, the assembly, and the use of this modification of my invention are deemed to be evident from the description of the fingernail polish protector shown in Figures 1 and 2 and will therefore not be repeated herein.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the uses, advantages, and operation of the fingernail polish protector of my invention will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains. While I have described the principle of operation together with the forms of my invention which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the articles shown are merely illustrative and that the invention is not to be limited to the details disclosed herein, but is to be accorded the full scope of the appended claims.

I claim: 1. A fingernail polish protector comprising a shield for the fingernail, said shield being spaced a substantial distance from said fingernail, and having openings, on at least two sides thereof adjacent the fingernail, and resilient means for securing said shield on said finger.

2. A fingernail polish protector comprising a shield for the fingernail, said shield being spaced a substantial distance from said fingernail and provided with openings on all sides of the finger adjacent the fingernail, and resilient means for securing said shield on said finger.

3. A fingernail polish protector comprising a shield ior the fingernail, said shield being provided with openings on both sides of said fingernail,being formed of resilient material, and having upper and lower pairs of arms extending rearwardly therefrom, said arms being so iormed and provided with connecting members whereby when positioned on opposite sides of a finger they will grip the same and thereby securely hold said fingernail polish protector on said finger.

4. A fingernail polish protector comprising a shield having upper, lower and front portions, at least a portion of the sides of said shield being open, a pair of arms integral with said shield extending downwardly and then rearwardly from each of the sides of the upper portion of said shield, means for connecting said arms together, a second pair of arms integral with said shield extending upwardly and then rearwardly from each of the sides of the lower portion of said shield, and means for connecting said arms together, said last mentioned pair of arms being positioned above said first mentioned pair of arms, said shield and arms being formed of resilient material whereby said pairs of arms when positioned on opposite sides of a finger will grip the same and secure said fingernail polish protector in position.

5. A fingernail polish protector comprising a shield for the fingernail, said shield being spaced a substantial distance from said fingernail, and resilient means for securing said shield on said finger.
