Description
P. VOCATURO GLASS CRUSHER Oct. '17, 1939.
Filed Oct. 27, 1938 MQTMM Patented Oct. 17, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GLASS CRUSHER Application October 27, 1938, Serial No. 237,313
1 Claim.
fragments of glass are forced through the grill 15 and fall into the drawer.
These and other details and objects of the invention are more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing,
20 wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the improved glass crusher.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view.
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on the line 3-3 25 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the lower half of the box.
The device is preferably a box divided into a lower half 5 and an upper half and lid 6 joined 30 by hinges l at the rear.
On the upper side of the half 5 is a grating 8 and beneath same is a drawer 9 to receive the fragments of glass that fall through the grating and that may be removed when a quantity ac- 35 cumulates.
Pivoted at the rear of the half 6 is a lever I extending through a slot H in the front wall and having a handle l2. The lever I0 carries on its lower edge a plunger I3 that is a block of metal or hard wood adapted to be forced down upon bottles by the lever to break and crush them on the grate 8. The lower side of the plunger is convex so that the initial pressure may be made on a minimum area to efiect a preliminary break in one or more bottles.
Attached to the inside of the box top are coil springs l4 also secured to the plunger to pull the plunger and lever away from their operative 10 position so that the bottles may be located thereunder for destruction.
The bottles may be inserted in the box through an opening covered by a door I5 that will prevent fragments of glass from flying outward as they are crushed.
The two halves of the box may be held together by hooks I6 and the grating may be supported by cleats I1.
While a practical construction of the device is shown it is obvious that the parts may be otherwise arranged or modified without departing from the essential features shown and described or from the scope of the claim.
What I claim as new is:
' In a bottle crusher, the combination of a box divided into a lower and an upper section hinged together, the upper section having a slot and a door for inserting bottles, a lever pivoted in the upper section and extending through the slot, a plunger carried by the lever, springs on the plunger to hold it up in an inoperative position,
a grate beneath the plunger and on line with the doc-r of the upper section to discharge the bottle fragments, hinges connecting the two sections, and a drawer beneath the grate.
PASQUALE VOCATURO.
