Cans, bottles and the like in general use today and for many years past for packaging liquids and the like for distribution and use by the ultimate consumer, have their upper dome shaped,
end terminating in a centrally disposed and constricted dispensing opening or spout. Generally these containers with their contents sold and shipped commercially are provided with a screw threaded cap which screws onto the constrLcted pressed a plurality of thereto and terminating in restricted, threaded neck portion 3 and having an opening therethrough for dispensing the contents of the con- 'tainer.
To replace the usual cap I provide my novel device which comprises weep po'rtion having collar 4 of the proper size to fit over the neck of the container and in which are thread segments compledispensing opening or spout. Referring more particularly to the embodiment disclosed in the drawing, my invention is shown in Fig. l as applied to a container I having tapered top portion 2 welded or otherwise attached the sides thereof gradually decreasing in height toward its free end. Spanning the lower front part of the sides of the handle, through suitable openings therein is a pin l3 rotatably mounted in openings in spaced tabs or lugs ll cut and I pressed out from the skirt 6 of the cap portion. On this pin is also mounted a coil spring [5, one end of which extends under the skirt 5 through one of the openings formed by cutting and presfor such a container, 5

I11 Operation, the device is screwed onto the container in a e of the original cap and the on iner i s sped by the operator that he can manipulate the handle to draw the free end down and toward the side oi the ontainer and against the action of the spring, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3. The handle draws with it the closure and drip shearing blade 9 too en the spout and permit pouring therefrom. Thcspring is relatively heavy and tends at all times to move the handle forward and upward whereby to move the blade to close the spout and shear the drip therefrom. Consequently, when the handle or lever is released the spring will rapidly raise the lever to its forward, raised position whereby to rapidly propel or shoot the blade over the spout, shearing and hurling the last vestige of the liquid away from the spout.
It is apparent that I have provided an effective seal or closure for a container and one which provides a spout which will pour freely and evenly without dripping. The handle is adapted to be grasped for facilitating movement of the contamer to which my device is attached and when so used will not work against the action of the spring but will assist it in keeping the spout closed and also constitutes the lever for opening the spout. The define consists of very few parts and can be made at a low cost.
Having disclosed the invention, I claim:
1. A closure and dispensing device for a con-- tainer, comprising a cap adapted to replace the container cap and formed from a single piece of sheet metal, collar on said cap for fitting onto the container, a neck portion above said collar and having a spout and. guideway therein, means in said guideway adapted to be moved to close said spout and shear the flow therefrom, a
skirthelow said collar and having upstanding lugs thereon, a member mounted 'for oscillation on. said lugs and connected to said closure, said memher being adapted for use as a handle and to reciprocate said closure.
2. A closure and "dispensing device for a container, comprising a cap adaptecligo replace the container cap, a collar on said cap forfitting onto the container, a neck portion above said collar and having a spout therein a guideway in the top of said neck portion, means in said guideway adapted to be moved to close said spout and shear the flow therefrom, a member mounted for oscillation on said cap and connected to said closure, said member being adapted for use as a handle and to reciprocate said closure.
