UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN R. WILSON AND WILSON M. BAKER, OF URBANA, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOG-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 216,482, dated June 10, 1879 application filed March 27, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN R. WILsoN and WILSON M. BAKER, of Urbana, in the county of Champaign and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Hog-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
The drawing shows an elevation of the device.
The object of this invention is to furnish an effective device for holding and controlling a hog.
The invention consists of a stout rod, preferably of metal, bent so as to form aloop or handle, A, whose legs cross each other, and are soldered or otherwise fastened together at a, and whose ends I) b are hooked, notched, or perforated, for the purpose of securely holding the chain, cord, or strap B, which is attached to them. a
If the chain, cord, or strap B be placed in a hogs mouth, aturn or twist of the loop portion of the device instantly forms a hitch of the chain or strap over the hogs nose, making it easy to hold him thereby, or to throw him down, if desired.
The ends I) b of the loop portion must be far enough apart to afford proper leverage for making a close hitch or crossing of the chain or strap upon the nose.
We are aware that other hog-holders have been designed with rigid loops or nose-rings to be fitted upon the hogs nose; but we do not know of any resembling this one, in which, as will be seen, the hitch or loop upon the hogs nose is constructed or effected by turning or twisting the handle of the holder after the holder is in position.
Having thus fully described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The within'described hog-holder, consisting of a stout rod bent so as to form a loop or handle, A, with crossed legs, whose ends are hooked, notched, or perforated, in combination with a chain, cord, or strap, B, secured to said legs, substantially as herein shown and described.
