M.POLACSEK MULTIPLE PACK BOOK PACKAGE Filed Se t. 9, 1937 INVENTOR flaurzcepalacsek BY 5 E ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 18, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 4 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a multiple-pack book package.
The invention has for an object the construction of a package as mentioned which is char- 5 acterized by a flexible sheet cover, and flat members for supporting various super-imposed articles disposed therein. It is contemplated to adapt the flat members to support small articles, sticks with match heads or other substances such as lipstick, glue, etc. The fiat members may comprise memo cards, index cards, etc. A further object of the invention is to provide a fastening pivot engaging through portions of the cover and the flat members and adapted to pivotally support the flat members so that they may be pivoted in one direction or the other out from the cover.
Still further the invention proposes to form the cover with slots through which the flat members may be pivoted.
Another object of the invention contemplates the provision of a means for holding the flat members normally in a certain position so that they do not freely fall. in one direction or the other when the cover is opened.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material partof this disclosure:
Fig. l is a perspective view of a multiple-pack book package constructed according to this invention. I
Fig. 2 is a. sectional view taken on the line 2-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the flat members.
Fig. 4 is a similar view to Fig. 3 but illustrating the flat member to be in the form of match pads.
Fig. 5 is an elevational view of the package in an open position with one of the members 45 pivoted outwards. I
Fig. 6 is a front elevational view of a multiplepack book package constructed according to a modification of this invention.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view taken on the line 'l---'! of Fig. ,6.
The multiple pack book package, according to this invention, comprises a cover consisting of a flexible sheet having a front cover portion l continuing at the top H into a back cover por- 55 tion It, continuing at the bottom 13 into a retaining flange l4 behind which the free end I II of the front cover portion It) may be engaged. Flat members l for holding articles l6 are disposed between the portions of said cover and each is provided with a bottom lug portion I5 engaging 5 between the said flange portion I 4 and the bottom portion of the back portion I2.
A fastening pivot ll engages through the flange portion l4 and the back portion l2 and through said lug portions l5" forpivotally sup- 10 porting the flat members IS. The junction I3 between the flange portion and the back portion I2 is formed with slots I! through which the members l5 may be pivoted.
The flexible sheet cover maybe made from leather, cardboard, cloth, or similar sheet material. The fiat members l5 may be made of cardboard, leather, metal or other substance. It is provided with several strip portions 15 stamped from the material thereof adapted to form strips for holding the articles l6. These articles may be a lipstick package or the like.
Another flat member I5 is provided in the form of a match pad with a chemical substance l5" at the extremities of the parallel fingers. The chemical substance may be provided to be used as match heads, mending glue, lipstick or for any other purpose.
Still anotherflat member l5 is provided in the form of a memorandum card and index card.
The fastening pivot ll comprises an eyelet rivet or the like which is engaged through the parts. Positioned on this pivot there are several washers 20 located between the lug portions l5 of the flat members and serving to properly hold the flat 86 members spaced from each other so as to make room for the thicknesses of the articles l6.
In Fig. 5 the device is shown with the flexible cover open and with one of the flat members swung out through one of the slots l8. This gives free access to the exposed flat member.
In Figs. 6 and 7, a modification of the invention has been disclosed in which a means is provided for holding the various flat members in fixed positions so that they do not fall in either direc- 5 tion when the cover is opened. This means comprises a fastening pivot consisting'of a tubular pivot element 20 formed with a threaded shank portion 20 and with an external large flange 20 -and at its other end with a small flange 20. A
{small length of tubular member M is threadedly engaged on the threaded portion 20! and has a flange portion 2 I arranged against the inner face of the flange 20. This flange portion 2| is formed with a plurality of openings 22 to assist in the manual gripping thereof. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to the previous form and similar parts may be identified by corresponding reference numerals.
The operation of the device is as follows:
Normally, the short tubular member 2| is turned to a position in which the washers 20, the flexible portion H, the lug portions 15', and the back portion I! are all clamped in a rigid unit. When the cover. portion III is opened the parts maintain their positions. The members l5, l5 and II will not fall in one direction or the other. When desired one may press with the fingers against the openings 22 to grip the flange 2| and then turn the flange to release the pressure on the unit. The flange 2| may be turned back until it strikes the flange as shown in Fig. 6. In this condition the parts are loose and the flat members maybe pivoted in one direction or the other through the slots It! provided in the cover for this purpose.
It is to be understood that with this swinging V arrangement of various flatmembers, any one of as deflned in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as.new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
