UNITED STATES PATENT Ora-Ion N. P. FRIEDRIGK ROSENBERG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IM PROVEM ElNlT lN SH UTTER-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 215. 398, dated May 13, 1879; application filed November 16, 1878. A
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, N. P. FRIEDRIOK ROSEN- BERG, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Window-Shutter Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a horizontal section of a window frame and shutters to which my improved device has been applied. Fig. 2 is a detail top view of thedevice enlarged, the keeper being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a front view of the device.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved fastener for window shutters and blinds, which shall be so constructed as to fasten itself as the shutter or blind is swung open, which will hold the shutter or'blind securely, which may be unt'astened to close the shutter or blind without its being necessary to reach out of the window, which may be applied to wood and brick buildings with equal facility, and which shall be simple in construction and inexpensive in manufacture.
The invention consists in an improved shutter or blind fastener formed by the combination of the plate, the hinged hook bar, the keeper, and the spring with each other, to adapt it to operate in connection with a shutter or blind,'as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the walls of a building, to which the shutters or blinds B are hinged in the usual way. To the wall A, a little above the lower hinge of the shutter or blind B, is attached a plate, 0, to which, a little above the lower shutter-hinge, is hinged the outer end of a bar, D. The bar D passes through a keeper, E, attached to the wall of the building or to the plate 0, at its inner end.
The inner end of the bar D is bent outward at right angles, or a little more or less than at right angles, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, so
as to catch upon the edge of the shutter or blind B when it is swung open, as shown in the lefthand part of Fig. 1. The bar D is held outward by a spring, F, interposed between it and the plate 0, and attached to one or the other of the said parts. Upon the inner or hook end of the hook bar D is formed a knob, for convenience in drawing it inward to unfasten the shutter or blind.
The hinged bar D is kept in place and prevented from dropping down by the keeper E, which also limits its outward movement.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent--- An improved shutter or blind fastener formed by the combination of'the plate 0, the hinged hook-bar D, the keeper E, and the spring F with each other, to adapt it to operate in connection with a shutter or blind, sub stan tially as herein shown and described.
