This particular feature, therefore, is adaptable to articles other than hosiery, the same being produced by introducing a reinforcing thread area with a plurality of transfer courses intermediate thereof, and having the transfer courses either adjacent or separated, and one or more regular knit courses between the same.

It has been found, by many experiments and tests, that runs commencing above the reinforced transfer area will not pass through that area even though threads are broken above the area. The invention, therefore, fills a long felt need in connection with full-fashioned hosiery, and the inclusion of such a device into the stocking, enhances, rather than mars, the beauty of the garment itself.

Of course, the mention of numbers of courses, etc. herein has been only for purposes of description, and these are not intended as limitations because various modifications a'nd changes may be made in the described article and method of knitting the same without departing from the invention herein set forth and hereafter claimed.

The invention is hereby claimed as follows: 1. A stocking having a regular welt and after welt with a reinforcing thread knit into two or 5 more adjacent courses of the after welt, and having two or more substantially adjacent transfer courses in the reinforced part of said after welt whereby the transferred area will stand out from the face of the fabric. l0
