WW1/MS06:
y@ @/mw? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. DIOKEY, OF JACKSON, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN CULTIVATO RS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 214,373, dated April 15, 1879 application filed January 15, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H.D1cKEY, of Jackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oultivators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters ot' reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specitcation.
Figure lis a perspective view of my device, a portion ot' the outer wall being taken away to show the position of the truunions of one of the parts. Fig. 2 is a perspective view ot` the device inverted. Fig. 3 is a tranverse section taken through the clamping-bolt.
This invention relates to a novel construction of a clamp or bracket, by means of which the blade or hoe of a cultivator may be adjustably secured to its supporting-standard.
As illustrated in the drawings, the device consists essentially of two parts, which are hinged to each other in such manner that they may be griped upon the standard by a single bolt.
VThe main part or body consists of two an ges, E E, adapted to receive the blade, which is secured thereto by rivets or bolts passing through holes c e. This part is expanded centrally, as at E', and provided with a circular opening, e", adapted to receive the lower end ot' the standard. This opening is of uniform diameter throughout, whereby it is adapted to be reversed upon the standard, in order that the blade or hoe may be turned upside down when required.
This part E E is constructed with an open space upon one side, in which space is inserted the other member, F, ot' the clamp. This part F is provided at its inner end with two trunnions, F', which iit into seats or recesses formed for their reception in the part E E in such relation to the opening eX that the inner concave face of the part F forms one side of said opening. The two members are provided with projecting ears, through which a bolt, e', passes to gripe the device upon the plow-standard, as will be readily understood from an examination ot' the drawings.
These two members are cast separately; and in order to facilitate the placing ot' the part F in the proper position, I form the part E l with an opening in its inner face-that is to say, the face upon which the blade is to be secured-ot' such size and shape as will per mit said part F to be thrust into place through this opening, as is indicated in Fig. 2.
The trunnions F may be cast upon the part F; or they may consist of a wrought-iron bar, upon which the part F is cast, or, when preferred, the said part may be cast with a hole in it adapted to receive a spindle, the part E E being cast with holes instead of seats, in which the trunnions are placed, in the construction shown in the drawings, and a pin inserted through the holes in both members, in which case the part E E' may `be cast with the face upon which the hoe-blade is attached continuous.
What I claim is- As a device for securing a cultivator blade or hoe to the standard, the herein-described parts E E F, in combination with the bolt el and nut c2.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WM. HfnrcKEY.
