It will thus appear that I have provided a relatively simple dispensing closure means which may be easily and cheaply manufactured and which at the same time is rugged and efficient, and while I have illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention herein for purposes of explanation, it will be understood that the several objects heretofore declared may be achieved in other ways without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A dispenser for granular substances and the like and including an upright receptacle, a top for said receptacle, a spout formed in said top by extrusion and closure means for said spout including an arm having an apertured portion embracing the spout, said spout having rim portions forced against said member to secure the latter against movement relative to the spout and a substantially planar closing flap pivotally mounted near one end on an end portion of said member remote from the spout, said flap being normally disposed by gravity against the opening of the spout to close the latter when the receptacle is in upright position.
2. A dispenser including an upright receptacle, a metal closing cap for said receptacle, said cap having a portion extruded to provide a spout, and closing means for the spout including an apertured arm fitted over the spout and held immovable relative to the latter by virtue of rim portions of the spout being forced back against said arm, said spout being nearer the edge of said cap than the central region thereof, and closure means for the spout including a substantially elongated supporting arm having an aperture portion near one end embracing said spout and having its opposite end disposed toward the central region of the cap, said spout having rim portions bent back upon said supporting arm to hold the latter rigidly, and a substantially planar and elongated flap pivotally mounted at one end on said opposite end of the supporting arm, said flap having end portions opposite its pivotal mounting normally disposed by gravity against the opening of the spout when said receptacle is in an upright position.
3. A dispenser including an upright receptacle, a metal cap for said receptacle and of substantially circular form, said cap having a spout portion extruded therefrom adjacent the periphery thereof, and a flap closure for said spout including a substantially elongated arm having one end portion apertured and embracing said spout, the latter having peripheral portions turned back onto said arm clamping the arm against movement with the opposite end portion of the arm directed substantially toward the center of the cap, said opposite end portion of the arm having opposite edgewise parts struck up to provide aligned ears, and a closure for said spout in the form of an elongated flap member having ear portions struck up near one end and. pivotally mounted on pin means engaging said first-mentioned ears on said arm such that the opposite end portion of said elongated flap member normally gravitates against the opening of said spout when the receptacle is in an upright position.
4. A dispenser including an upright receptacle, a metal cap having means for removably securing the same to said receptacle, said cap having a top portion normally disposed in a substantially horizontal plane when said receptacle is in an upright position, said cap having a spout portion extruded therefrom offset from the central region thereof, said spout having a sloping intermediate body portion adjoining the cap and having an opening disposed in a plane at an angle to the horizontal, and closure means for the spout in the form of an arm having an apertured portion fitted around said intermediate portion of the spout, said spout having rim portions around said opening thereof turned back upon said arm and wedging the latter immovably onto said intermediate body portions thereof, said arm having an opposite end portion extending in a radial sense toward the central portion of said cap, said opposite end portion of the arm having opposite ears struck up therefrom, and a closure flap pivotally mounted on pin means engaging said ears and normally disposed by gravity against said opening of the spout when the receptacle is in upright position.
5. A dispenser including a substantially cylindrical receptacle having an open top portion and adapted normally to stand upright, and a metal cap for said receptacle and provided with thread formations for removably securing the same onto said open top portion of the receptacle, said cap having an eccentrically disposed spout formed by extruding therefrom a sleevelike formation having sloped Wall portions, an elongated supporting arm having a particular end portion apertured and fitted over said sloping portions of the spout formation, said spout having rim portions peened back onto the supporting arm and forcing the latter rigidly against the wider sloping portions of the spout formation, said supporting arm having its inner end portion opposite the said particular end thereof directed in a radial sense toward the center of the cap, said inner end portion of the arm having opposite ears struck up thereon, and an elongated closing flap for the spout having opposite ear portions struck down near one end thereof and pivotally mounted on said supporting arm by pin means extending through said ears, the opposite end portion of said flap normally resting against said rim portion of the spout and closing the latter when said receptacle is in upright position, said flap automatically opening when said receptacle is tilted to lower said spout portion.
6. A dispenser constructed in accordance with the provisions of claim 5 and in which said closing flap is additionally provided with an offset formation in the region of its pivotal mounting on said supporting arm for the purpose of limiting the opening movement of the flap when said receptacle is tilted out of said normal position such that said flap will be urged toward fully open position.
