My invention relates to stove constructions, and more particularly to a movable shelf supporting structure for ovens.
, It is an object of my invention to provide a movable shelf supporting structure for ovens which is-simple in construction and strong and durable in operation.
Another object of the invention is to provide a shelf supporting structure for ovens which will tend to maintain either its forward or back position after it has once reached the end of its travel in either forward or backward direction.
A further object of my invention is to provide a construction which is light and positive in action and easy to repair and replace.
With these and other objects in view, which may be incident to my improvements, the invention consists in the parts and combinations to be hereinafter set forth and claimed, with the understanding that the several necessary elements comprising my invention may be varied in construction, proportions and arrangements, without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
In order to make my invention more clearly understood, I have shown in the accompanying drawings means for carrying the same into practical efiect without limiting the improvements in their useful applications to the particular constructions which, for the purpose of explanation,
have been made the subject of illustration.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of my stove construction embodying my oven, with the oven door closed;
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1, with the pull out structure in the out position;
Figure 3 is a view in side elevation of my pull out construction in which parts have been removed to clearly show the operation;
Figure 4 is a view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 3, looking in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken along the line 5-5 of Figure 6, looking in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken along the line 6-6 of Figure 5, looking in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 7 is a schematic view showing the position of the various parts during the opening and closing of the oven door.
Referring to the drawings 1 have shown a stove I having a pull out shelf supporting construction which I have designated generally by the nu- 36 meral 2. This pull out shelf supporting construction comprises a vertical door 3, which is pivoted at 4 (see Figure 6) to the oven, and is provided with a handle 5 near the top.-
The oven construction proper comprises an oven space 6 which has an insulated back wall 5 'l and an insulated top wall 8. The door 3 is insulated as indicated at 9. There is also provided an insulated side wall ID. The interior side wall is insulated for a portion of its length, as indicated at ll'. 10
There is a shelf carrying, movable support l2 positioned in the oven, and a burner construction I3 which is adapted to heat a roasting shelf l4 which is attached to the self carrying, movable support l2 at the bottom. 15
The roasting shelf l4 comprises support brackets IE on either side of the shelf which are attached by means of bolts IE to support racks I! on either side of the movable support l2. The supports iii are formed with stops lil'which are 20 adapted to lie against stops l9 formed just above the oven door 3 in its lowermost position (see Figure 3). The stop I9 is provided with a flange 20 against which the support brackets I5 rest.
In the rear position of the shelf carrying, mov- 25 able support, which is formed of the members I! and the roasting shelf I4, the rear of the members I5 is adapted to rest on a shelf 2! attached to the inner wall of the rear insulated wall 'I of the oven, 30
The members I! are provided with trackways 22 in which are adapted to slide movable shelves 23 which can be slid for instance in the rear position, see top shelf of Figure 3, or left into the forward position, see bottom shelf 23 of Fig- 5 ure 2, when the oven door is opened. The burner I3 is adapted to heat the roasting shelf I4.
The shelf carrying, movable support I2 is carried by support arms 24 pivoted at points 25 on either side of the oven. The support arms 24 40 are pivoted at their upper ends, as indicated at 26, to the members II which form the shelf carrying, movable support l2. The door 3 has attachedto it at either side operating arms 21 which are curved rearwardly, as indicated in 45 Figure 3, or downwardly, as indicated in Figure 6, when the oven door is shut.
These short operating arms 21 are provided with an attaching plate 28, which is aflixed to the interior of the door 3. At the ends 29 of the 50 operating arms 21 are pivots 30 to which are attached links 3| on either side of the oven. The links 3| are pivoted at 32 to-the forwardly located support arms 24 (see Figure 6). A spring member 33, which is attached at 34 to a support 5 35 within' the oven 6, is also attached at its upper end to one of the links ll.
'I'he plurality of links 3| and the plurality of operating arms provide a strong construction which does not make it necessary for a linking together of the support arms 24 on either side of the oven at their lower ends. as has heretofore been, in general, necessary.
It is to be noted that the pivot 30 which connects the operating arms 21 and the links 3| is close to the hinge l for the front door. of the oven. This construction throws a minimum of strain on the front door and also does away with long sections of linkage and support mechanism. The simplicity of the construction is readily apparent from the open position of the oven, as illustrated in the perspective view of Figure 2. The spring 33, by reason of its downward pull on the links 3|, and the arms 21 tend to hold the oven door closed, thereby simplifying the construction of the door hinges 4. The shelf carrying, movable support l2 will be securely maintained in either its extended or retracted position by reason of the fact that its weight is car- 'ried by the arms 24 which swing either forward of or behind their pivot points 25. The spring 33 will also assist in maintaining the shelf carrying member ii in either of its positions.
The positions of the parts in opening and shutting of the door are readily apparent from the diagrammatic showing in Figure 7.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I wish it to be understood that I do not confine myself to the precise details of construction herein set forth by way of illustration, as it is apparent that many changes and variations may be made therein, by those skilled in the art, without departing from the spirit of the invention, or exceeding the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In an oven construction, a door for the front of the oven, a pivot for the door, a slidable shelf carrying support, link means to move the support, an operating arm pivoted to the link means at one end and attached to the door at the other end, said point of pivoting of link and operating arm lying close to the pivot for the door, and a spring attached to the operating link tending to hold the movable support in either the front or back position.
2. In an oven construction, a door for the front of the oven, a pivot for the door', a slidable shelf carrying support, link means to move the support, a backwardly curved operating arm pivoted to the link means at one end and attached to the door at the other end, said point of pivoting of link and operating arm lying close to the pivot for the door, and a spring attached to the operating link tending to hold the movable support in either the front or back position.
3. In an oven construction, a shelf carrying movable support, support arms pivoted near the bottom of the oven, pivot connections near the top of the movable support for the support arms, a door, a pivot for the door, link means to move the support, and backwardly curved operating arm pivoted to the link means at one end and attached to the door at the other end, said point of pivoting of link and operating arm lying close to the pivot for the door, said support arms in their forward position lying within the oven.
4. An oven construction comprising an oven. a shelf carrying movable support therein, support arms pivoted near the botom of the oven, pivot connections near the top of the movable support for the support arms, a door, means attached to the door adjacent the bottom thereof and to one of said support arms to cause the movable support to move forward when the door is opened, a roasting shelf carried by the movable support, a stop at the front of the oven contacting with the roasting shelf to stop the forward movement of the movable support, and a stop in the oven at the rear against which the roasting shelf contacts at its rearmost position.
5. An oven construction comprising an oven, a shelf carrying movable support therein, support arms pivoted near the bottom of the oven, pivot connections near the top of the movable support for the support arms, a door, a backwardly curved operating arm secured at one end to the door adjacent the bottom thereof and attached to one of the support arms at the other end to cause the movable support to move forward when the door is opened, a roasting shelf carried by the movable support, a stop at the front of the oven contacting with the roasting shelf to stop the forward movement of the movable support and a stop in the oven at the rear against which the roasting shelf contacts at its rearmost position.
6. An oven construction comprising an oven, a shelf carrying movable support therein, arms pivoted near the bottom of the oven, pivot connections near the top of the movable support for the arms, a door, a pivot for the door, a link pivoted at one end to one of said arms, a backwardly curved operating arm attached at one end near the bottom of the oven door and pivoted at the opposite end to said link, the pivot point of the link and the operating arm lying adjacent the pivot for the'door, and a spring attached to the operating link tending to hold the movable support in either the front or back position.
