Patented Nov. 8, 1938 v UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in racks for displaying rolls of wire screen and other sheet material, the principal object of the invention being to provide a rack which will occupy a very small floor space.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a rack for supporting rolls of material which will offer a good display of the rolls and which will also be convenient to the salesman because of the ease with which the proper width roll can be selected .at a glance.
These and various other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings:-
Figure 1 is an end elevational view of the device.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one of the rods.
Figure 3 is .a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 44 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a front elevational view of the rack.
Figure 6 is a horizontal sectional view through the rack.
Figure 7 is an enlarged fragmentary end elevational view.
Figure 8 is a fragmentary enlarged front elevational view of the rack with the strip removed.
Figure 9 is a fragmentary perspective view of one of the notched props.
Figure 10 is a fragmentary perspective view of one of the front strips.
Figure 11 is a perspective view of one of the wedges.
Figure 12 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view through one of the rolls on one of the rods.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the rack is made up of the intermediate front prop To the inner side of each of these props 6-6 is secured a notched front prop i, each of these props 1 being provided with a notch 8 therein for receiving the corresponding end of a roll supporting rod 9. The remaining end of the rod is disposed in a recess 9a of a partition 5.
Numeral i9 denotes the top horizontal memher and at regular intervals below this and extending between the notched props 8 and the partitions 5 are shelf-like partitions H defining spaces within each of which is located a rod 9. These intermediate props 5 are interposed between the partitions II in the manner shown in Figure 5 and their horizontal disposition takes care of the rods of different length to accommodate rolls of difierent width material.
Facing the props 61 at each end of the rack is a strip [2 which at regular spaced intervals is provided on its inner side with wedge-shaped depressions l3 and also with a notch M. The notches l4 register with the notches 8 of the prop I so that the ends of the rods 9 which fit in the notches 8 can be readily removed through the notches M of the facing strip l2. However, this facing strip I2 is secured to the props 6-1 and to preclude the possibility of the ends of the rods 9 last mentioned from becoming displaced, wedge-shaped plates l5 are driven between the stripping l2 and props 6-'|, and in the depressions l3 so as to project over and close the notches 8 to prevent displacement of the rod ends.
Thus the rods 9 and the rolls [6 thereon are removably supported in a positive manner.
Back props ll are provided and suitable brace members 18 are provided between these back props I l and the front props.
Furthermore, the back props I! are provided with rearwardly projecting pintles I9 upon which rolls of material can be stored.
Roll supporting cores 2!] are provided on the rods 9 and to prevent slipping of the cores out of the rolls, stop collars 2| built up of tape or like material are provided on the rods.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the claimed as new is:--
1. A rack of the character described comprising a frame consisting of side members, roll supporting rod members, one of said side members being provided with notches for removably receiving corresponding ends of the rods, said side member being provided with slots intersecting the said notches, and slides disposed in the slots to form abutments for the corresponding ends of the rods.
2. A rack of the character described comprising a frame consisting of side members, roll supporting rod members, one of said side members being provided with notches for removably receiving corresponding ends of the rods, said side member being provided with slots intersecting the said notches, and slides disposed in the slots to form abutments for the corresponding ends of the rods, said slides being in the form of wedge-shaped plates.
