Description

Nov. 1, 1938. w c 2,135,065
TOOL
Filed Aug. 150, 1937 Inventor 9 6076 J7. Vl /b/r By flmwi izm Attorneys Patented Nov. 1, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a tool, the general object of the invention being to provide a tool which is so formed that it can be used for removing the capof a main bearing of a motor.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:-
Figure l is a side view of the tool.
Figure 2 is an edge view thereof.
In these views, the numeral l indicates the shank of the tool which is provided with the handle 2 having a wedge-shaped part 3 at its free end which can be used for various purposes in a shop. The free end of the shank is bent almost at right angles to provide the head 4. Said head has a rounded reduced point forming part 5 and inwardly of this part the head is bowed downwardly, this part extending to approximately the center of the head where it joins a second substantially bowed part 6, these two parts forming curved lower edges which can rock on surfaces when the tool is in use. These edges are separated by an upwardly bowed part which forms a recess 1 in said lower edge and this part can rest on a rounded projecting portion so that the tool can fulcrum on such portion.
As is well known the cap of the main bearing of a motor has a hole in each end thereof and the point 5 of the tool can be placed in one of these holes and then the tool can be rocked on a part of the motor or on a piece of material 5 placed under the head of the tool so as to lift the cap off the bearing.
Thus with this tool the cap of the main bearing can be easily and quickly removed from the body of the bearing. 10
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combina- 16 tion and arrangement of the several parts pro vided that such changes fall Within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is: 20
A tool of the class described comprising a rodlike shank having a handle at one end thereof and a lateral extension at the other end thereof forming a head, said head being sinuous in shape and comprising a central portion bowed 25 in the direction of the handle end of the shank, and a pair of inner and outer portions upon opposite sides of the central portion and oppositely bowed relative thereto, the outer portion terminating in a tapered end inclined in the direction 30 of the handle end of the shank.
