A further object of my invention is to provide a machine of the kind described in which the movement of the seat can be accomplished in two directions precisely at ninety degrees.

A rack 'l' is affixed to the rail 1 and similarly a rack 8 is affixed to the rail 8 in such a manner as to allow the teeth of the racks to extend below the lower surfaces of the respective rails. The carriage 9 is slideably mounted on the rails 1 and 8 as shown at A and B. The guide rails Ill and I! are supported in the endsv of the carriage and are parallel to each other. The use of the machine herein described is primarily that of making precision cuts in the form of slots or grooves in dental gold inlays, three-quarter gold crowns, full gold crowns, and the like which have been previously fitted to the teeth in the mouth of a patient, and transferred to a metal die or cast of the jaw constructed from I an impression of said jaw. These inlays are intended for attachments to abutment teeth to support precision removable dental bridges. The proper operation of removable bridges depends on the precision of the cuts made in the abutment These cuts must be perpendicular to the quire another cut at exactly degrees from the first, This machine provides the movements iii) necessary to prepare the required work in that the seat must remain continuously in the same plane and at times move in two definite directions at 90 degrees. The arrangement illustrated and described provides the means of movement with the conservation of height. The seat is designed preferably to accommodate an adjustable base as illustrated, however I do not confine myself to such a base specifically.
In operation, the base is placed in the seat with the work turned to the most convenient position. The set screws 39 are rotated to clamp the said base. The work is then positioned under the bit 38 by rotation of the Wheels l5 and 23. The bit is raised or lowered by the wheel 3| and then clamped in position by the locking wheel 33. If the direction of the out is along the rails l0 and II, the locking wheel [6 is rotated to clamp the,
carriage and the work is fed against the bit by rotation of the wheel 23. If the direction of the cut is along the rails I and 8, the seat is clamped by the rotation of the wheel 24 and the work is fed against the bit by the rotation of the wheel Hi.
The machine herein described provides a definite guide for the machining and milling required in the preparation of removable dental bridges and such modifications may be employed as lie within the scope of the appended claim and what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is;
A milling and parallelingmachine comprising a carriage, a base and a seat, the said carriage slideably positioned on guides the said guides suspended above the base on posts, the said seat slideably positioned on a second set of guides, the said second set of guides positioned on the carriage at right angles to and below the first set of guides, racks affixed to the firstfset of guides, pinions rotatably mounted on the carriage and in engagement with the rack on the first set of guides, a second rack positioned on the carriage and a pinion rotatably mounted on the seat and in engagement with the said second rack, wheels as means to drive the said pinions and other wheels as meansto lock the said pinions, a bit rotatably mounted on the base and vertically adjusted to the seat.
