Our invention relates to a new and useful fan or blower, andit relates more particularly to a self-contained construction which can be put in use wherever needed without in any way interfering with the construction of any machine or other appliance in connection with which it is to be used.
Our invention further-relates toa fan or blower construction in which the actuating motor is mounted in a vertical, adjustable manner at a point relatively remot'efrom the fan or blower element itself which also lends'itself tovertical mounting and in which theaction of the blower, in delivering air, is utilized to cool the bearings and other moving parts.
Our invention still' further relates to a fan or blower unit which iscapable of both vertical and horizontal adjustment thereby rendering it easily applicable at any desired point and permitting accurate alignment of the parts regardless of surface irregularities.
Our invention still further relates to a fan or blower construction which is reversible without any loss of capacity or efiiciency.
Our invention still further relates to other novel features of construction and advantage all as will be seen from the annexed specification and the accompanying drawing in which:

Referring to the drawing in which like reference characters indicate like parts, 4 designates an outer elongated hollow housing or frame or housing which is supported by the lateral flanges 6. 8 designates a vertical bracket which may be integral with or suitably secured to the inner elongated hollow housing Hi, the latter being, secured by the bolts l2 which are adjustable in the slots M to the outer or main housing 4. In order to permit of vertical adjustment of the bracket 8 and motor IS with respect to the frame 4 we provide the plates 24 secured by the bolts 25 to the inside walls of the frame or housing 4 (see Fig. 2), and we also provide the set screw 22 which bears upon the corresponding end of theinner housing [8. Thus, with the screws l2 loosened,- the innerhousing ID will be loosely positioned within the outerframe or housing 4 and it will be balancedor fulcrumed upon the plates 24; The inner housing 1 8 is then brought to the desired horizontal adjustment and the set screw 22 is turned in the proper direction to hold the inner h'ousing' lfl in 'the adjusted position whereupon theiscrews l2 are tightened to fasten the inner-=housingl-ll to the outer frame or housingl4 a J. Inorder to insure proper tension on the belting 26', we provide the rod-28 which carries the cam SU-which is-Va'dapted-to bear against the-"plate 32 secured to the housing 4 so-that,'by loosening the-bolts l2 and-turning the rod 28, the bracket 8 can be moved with respect to'thehousin'g '4, and, when the desired tension on the belting 28 has been attained, the bolts l2 are again tightened. The belting 26 travels over the multiple pulley 34 which turns the shaft 36 to actuate the fan blades 38 and 40. The shaft 38 is enclosed in a casing 42 and is centralized by the set screws 44 engaging the bearings 46. The casing 42 is provided with the lower openings 48 and the upper openings 50 to permit suction of air into and discharge of air from the casing 42 in the direction of the arrows-in Fig. -1,'thus cooling the pulley 34 and the bearings 46.
By assembling the fan proper at a distance from the actuating motor Hi we render our construction particularly adapted for use in connection with drying machines and the like in which it is desirable in the interests of efficiency to mount the fan or blower withinthe casing, housing, or other inclosure 54 of a drying ma: chine (diagrammatically illustrated in dotted lines), but in which it is not desirable to have the motor also within the casing due to the heat developed within the casing and the necessity of maintaining the motor [6 as cool as possible. The bearings 46 are, as above pointed out, cooled by the supply of fresh air drawn through the main housing 4 at its outer extremity near the bottom of the motor I6, and the fan blades 38 and 48 are within the drying chamber proper. It is understood that the outer housing 4 and the inner housing I0 can be made of any desir-' able length either in one piece or in sections.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A fan or blower construction comprising an L-shaped bracket, a motor carried by the vertical portion thereof, an elongated hollow housing,
means within said housing for supporting the horizontal portion of said L-shaped bracket, there being horizontal slots in said housing, means passing through said slots and engaging said horizontal portion of said bracket for laterally adjustably securing the latter to said housing, means carried by said housing and acting on said horizontal portion of said bracket for vertically adjusting said motor, a vertical casing at the other end of said housing, a fan shaft disposed within said casing and projecting downwardly into said ter to said housing, means carried by said housing and acting on said horizontal portion of said bracket for vertically adjusting said motor, a vertical casing at the other end of said housing, a fan shaft disposed within said casing and projecting downwardly into said housing, driving connections leading from said motor through said housing to the lower end of said shaft for actuating the latter, there being ventilating holes in said vertical casing of said fan shaft, and a cam element carried by the vertical portion of said Lshaped bracket and adapted to bear against a plate carried by said housing for tightening said driving connections.
3. A fan or blower construction for drying machines and the like comprising an elongated horizontal hollow housing, one end of said housing being disposed within the drying chamber of a drying machine, a fan assembly extending upwardly from said end of said housing, a bracket mounted for vertical and horizontal adjustment at the other end of said housing, a motor carried by said bracket, and driving connections extending from said motor through said housing to the lower end of said fan assembly to actuate the latter, whereby said motor is disposed in the relatively cool air' outside of said drying chamber and whereby the movement of said driving connections produces a stream of relatively cool air through said housing and about said fan assembly.
4. A fan or blower construction for drying machines and the like comprising an elongated horizontal hollow housing, one end of said housing being disposed within the drying chamber of a drying machine, a fan assembly including oppositely disposed fan blades extending upwardly from said end of said housing, a bracket mounted for vertical and horizontal adjustment at the other end of said housing, a motor carried by said bracket, and driving connections extending from said motor through said housing to the lower end of said fan assembly to actuate the latter, whereby said motor is disposed in the relatively cool air outside of said drying chamber and whereby the movement of said driving connections produces a stream of relatively cool air through said housing and about said fan assembly.
