This invention relates to new and useful improvements in an adjustable means for attaching quilts, blankets, etc., to cribs.

The invention has for an object to associate fastening elements upon said quilt or similar article spaced in from the edge portions thereof and associated with strips having at their ends coacting fasteners for releasable attachment on said quilt or similar article.

Still further the invention contemplates the provision of gripping elements on the other ends of said strips and adapted to engage certain of the vertical rods in the sides of a crib so as to permit the quilt to move vertically, but restrained from lateral motion.

A feature of the arrangement resides in the fact that the quilt or similar article will be restrained from slipping off from a child laying in the crib, while at the same time it may move vertically to permit turning and tossing during sleep. A further feature of the invention resides in an arrangement whereby the strips are attached to the edge portions of the quilt or other article in a manner so as to permit the edge portions to continually extend downwards over the sides of themattress of the crib in all vertical positions of the quilt or similar article.

Another one of the objects of the invention resides in the specific construction of the gripping elements to adapt them for convenient operation.

Still further the invention contemplates arranging the strips from elastic material so as to be automatically adjustable to fit the quilt to cribs of varying widths.

Another one of the objects resides in a provision which permits the strips to be adjusted longitudinally along the length of the quilt or similar article so that they may be properly located to engage the vertical bars of the side portions of the crib.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

The adjustable means for attaching quilts, blankets and the like to cribs is intended for cooperation with a crib [0 having a plurality of vertical side rods Ill In all respects the crib is of conventional construction and for this reason the details thereof will not be given in this specification. The reference numeral ll indicates generally a quilt or blanket or similar article. Fastening elements I2 (see Figs. 3 and 5) are arranged upon said quilt ll spaced in from the edge portions I l thereof. Strips [3 have one of their ends coacting with the fastening elements l2 and the other of their ends provided with gripping elements l4 adapted to engage certain of the vertical rods Ill The quilt ll preferably is of rectangular shape and adapted to engage upon the mattress and covering sheets of the crib. This quilt If is adapted to cover a child sleeping in the crib. The

taken on the line fastening elements I2 comprise sections of snap I fasteners. These fastening elements l2 coact with complementary fastening elements l2 arranged upon the inner ends of the strips 13. The strips l3 comprise elastic material so as to be stretchable to permit the holding means to engage cribs of slightly different widths. The gripping elements l4 comprise a piece of spring steel or other similar material bent into a specific shape.

As illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7, each of the gripping elements l4 comprises a piece of spring steel formed with a gripping element M which consists of a piece of spring wire turned at its central portion into several turns M which form a loop for the elastic l3 to engage therethrough as previously described relative to the prior form. From the coiled portion M semi-circular portions M project, which terminate in interengageable end portions M According to this form of the invention it is necessary that the interengaging portions M be forced to disengage each other and then the semi-circular portions M be drawn apart to open them so that the gripping element may be engaged upon a vertical rod of the crib.

In Figs. 4 and 5 a slightly modified form of the invention has been disclosed which distinguishes merely in the construction of the gripping elements. According to this form of the invention there is a circular portion M at its center and extended into several turns and forming a loop through which the strap 93 may pass. The strap I3 is of double material engaged at its center through the loop M and secured in position by a line of stitches 53. The material of the outer end portion of the strap I3 is secured together by the snap fastener element l2.

From the coiled portion W the gripping element continues into opposed outwardly directed loop portions M each of which continues into a semi-circular portion l4, terminating in interengageable ends M The interengageable ends are merely partially twisted to engage each other. The portions I l are adapted to engage the vertical posts W of the crib. The portions M are adapted to be squeezed together to open the portions Mi so that the gripping elements may be engaged on the post.

The strips 53 and the associated gripping elements l 4 may be removed from the quilt H by disengagement of the snap fastener l2 and I2. The

quilt may then be laundered. These parts may be re-engaged when desired, and serve to adjustably hold the quilt in position upon the crib.

In Figs. 8 and 9 a modified form of the invention has been disclosed in which provision is made for adjusting the holding means both laterally and longitudinally. More specifically, the quilt H has small strips I6 secured along portions spaced in from the edge portions thereof, and located near the corners or throughout the entire length of the quilt. These strips l6 are secured in position by lines of stitches l1 along the edges thereof. A cord or other fastening element I8 is laced through holes in the strips it so as to present a plurality of looped portions It? extending along the length of the strips l 6.

The ends l of the cord I8 are tied together in a knot. Associated with each cord l8 there is a strip l3 on any one of the loop portions l8 Specifically, the strip l3 has its end portion engaged through one of the loops and is so held in position by snap fastener elements l2 upon adjacent parts thereof. These snap fastener elements may be opened to permit the strip I3 to be disengaged from the loop Hi A gripping element M is mounted on the extended end of the strip I3. A feature of the construction resides in the fact that the holding means may be shifted longitudinally by engaging the strip l3 through the several loops m. The holding means may be adjusted transversely by opening the knot W of the cord l8 and drawing the cord in or leaving it out, as the case may be.

When tension is applied to the holding means, the various loops HP will flatten out and disappear, except the one through which the strip I3 is passed. The size of this particular loop may be controlled by leaving out or drawing in of the knot I8 of the cord l8.

which is adapted to be releasably engaged In Figs. 10 and 11 another modified form of the invention has been disclosed in which an arrangement is provided by which the holding means may be adjusted longitudinally. A cord or other filling element 20 is forced inwards from the bottom side of the quilt H and is secured in this position by a line of stitches 2|. The cord 20 is extended longitudinally spaced in from the edge portions of the quilt l I at the ends thereof. Thus, a projecting portion 22 is formed on the top of the quilt.

A metallic clip 23 is adapted to be clipped on the projecting portion 22 anywheres along its length. This metallic clip 23 is connected with the strip [3, which in turn supports at its outer end the gripping element l4. It will be readily understood that the clip 23 may be shifted to various positions along the longitudinal length. of the projected portion 22 and so the location thereof may be adjusted to fit the spacing of the vertical bars I 1 of the crib.

In Figs. 12, 13 and 14, a still further modified form of the invention .has been disclosed in which a plurality of loops 25 made of a continuous braid, are stitched to a strip 28 at 21. The strip 26 is stitched to the quilt H, at 28, spaced from the edge portions 1 l Gripping elements I l are connected to one end of elastic strips l3. The other end of eachelastic strip I3 is engaged by loop 29 of an anchor pin 30. This anchor pin is pulled through one of the loops 25, for selectively locating the gripping elements l4 at the particular loop 25 which is in the closest vicinity of the desired vertical side rods I0 The length of the elastic strips I3 may be adjusted by a suitable adjusting buckle 13".

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and "the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I. claim as new, and desire to secure by United:

States Letters Patent, is:

1. In adevice of the class described, a bedcover for use on a crib having vertical side rods,

strips attached longitudinally .of and .on said bed cover along the side portions thereof, cords threaded through openings in said strips and having their ends tied together by which loop portions may be formed along the length of said strip by drawing in and letting out portionsof said cords, fastening elements engaging through said loop portions at .one of their ends and adapted to be connected with said Irods at the other of their ends.

2. In a device of the'class describedpa bed cover for use on a crib having vertical side rods, strips attached longitudinally of and on said bed cover along the side portions thereof, cords threaded through openings in said strips and having their ends tied together by which loop portions may be formed along the length of said strip by drawing in and letting out portions of said cords, fastening elements engaging through said loop portions at one of their ends andadapted to be connected with said rods at the other of their ends, said fastening elements being selectively engageable with various loop portions formed on said strip to align said fastening elements with said side rods so that they may be easily engaged therewith.
