1 Claim.

This invention relates toclothes holders and more particularly to clothes holders for use in connection with metal clothes lines.

One object of this invention is toprovide a new and improved clothes holder. Another object of this invention is to provide a clothes holder made from a single piece of wire. Another object is to provide a clothes holder which is adapted to grip two articles of clothing at the same time. Another object is to make a wire clothes pin which is cheap to manufacture. Another object is to provide a clothes holder which may be easily attached to a clothes line. A further object is to provide a clothes holder by means of R which the number of clothes holders needed may be reduced. Other objects and advantages of this invention will appear more fully when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.

In the drawing, wherein like numerals indicate corresponding parts in the various figures, Fig. 1 is a side elevation showing a clothes holder mounted upon a clothes line and holding a. section of clothing on the line. Fig. 2 is an end view taken on the right of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a. view similar to Fig. '1 but showing the clothes holder being manipulated for the purpose of releasing or'gripping a piece of clothing. Fig. 4 is a cross section onthis line l4 in Fig. l.

I have attained the foregoing objects by, constructing a clothes holder with two sets of spaced clamping jaws, an interconnecting coil portion, and hand grip levers for moving the jaws about the coil as a fulcrum.

In Fig. l the clothes holder I is shown mounted upon a metallic clothes line II and securing thereon a section of cloth I2 which may indicate a portion of a sheet or other fabric which is placed upon the clothes line to dry. The clothes holder comprises two sets of spaced clamping jaws l3 and M interconnected by coil l5 and having hand grip levers I6 and I1 for moving the jaws about the coil as a fulcrum.

More specifically the holder comprises a length of wire formed to provide a central coil l5 hav ing its axis extending transversely of the holder. The coil has its convolutions l6, ll, 18 and I9 divided into two groups A and B with each group having a common plane substantially parallel to the planes of the individual convolutions and the common plane of each group extending at an angle to the common plane of the other group. The two groups are interconnected by the central portion 20 and together they form the upwardly facing clothes line gripping portion 2| therebetween.

Extending from the opposite extremities 22 and 23 of the coil are substantially horizontally extending arms 24 and 25. They extend in opposite directions from the coil and extend through planes which are substantially parallel to each other and which are substantially parallel to the 5 common plane of the holder.

At the remote ends of said arms are located the downwardly facing line gripping portions 13 and M. The portion I4 is formed from an upwardly extending wire portion 21 which terminates in the wire gripping bend 28 and then extends into the angularly downwardly extending part 29. This latter portion terminates at the reverse bend 30 and the wire continues through the bend and extends angularly upwardly into the lever arm 31. The lever arm 3|, the bend 3i] and the portion 29 form the reverse bend connection between these parts.

The angularly upwardly extending lever 3| extends in the opposite angular direction from the lever 32 at the opposite end of the holder. The wire terminates upwardly in the ring shaped hand grip loop ll. The downwardly facing line gripping portions l3 and M respectively and the hand grip loops [6 and I1 respectively face transversely of the length of the holder and respectively have substantially common vertically extending planes.

The arm 24 terminates in an upwardly angularly extending part 33 which curves through the return bend portion 34 and forms the downwardly extending stretch 35, the latter extends into the upwardly angularly extending lever arm 32 connected by the reverse bend portion 36. The upper end of the lever 32 is formedwith a hand grip loop I6 shaped similar to the loop IT.

The clothes pin provides a very simple construction which is easy to manipulate and which is simple to make.

While a preferred embodiment of this invention is shown and described. variations within the true spirit and scope of the same are to be determined by the appended claim.

A clothes holder for'wire clothes lines comprising a single length of wire formed to provide a central coil, having its axis extending transversely of .the holder, having the convolutions divided into two groups, with a common'plane of each group extending at an angle to the common plane of the other group to provide an upwardly facing clothes line gripping portion therebetween; horizontally extending arms, extending in opposite directions from the remote ends of said coil, substantially parallel to each other along the holder; transversely and oppositely extending downwardly facing line gripping portions at the remote ends of said arms; angularly oppositely upwardly extending levers forming reverse bend connections with respect to the said last mentioned portions; and oppositely extending hand grip loops at the upper ends of said levers; said downwardly facing line grip portions and said hand grip loops having parallel planes common to the loop and grip at each end of the holder and extending transversely thereof.
