syclsims. (o1. 24259 This invention relates to holders for partitions andthe like, and one of its objects is to rigidly hold a partition in place in any adjusted position.
-It is customary 1in certain mercantile establish- `ments toprovide a number of bins or compartments on counters, tables and the like with the use of glass walls and'partitions'fordisplaying merchandise, and the `present holder has been devisedto hold the partitions at places where it may be found desirable to locate them.
Another-object is to provide a holder for partitions andthe like which requires no screws or 4Another object is to whereby to locate a partition or the like in any Another object is to pro-vide a "slightly, but due to the" resiliency of the holder, the partitions will be rigidly held in place.` Another object is to provide a holder with one or more horizontal feet adapted to underlie a wall ylor other division member, whereby `the holder may lbe` installed inplace without lifting or reimoving the wall, and will be securely heldin i any adjustedposition.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the course of this specification and, with all 'of said objects and advantagesin View, this invention consists inthe several novel features i hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
One embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing,` in which:
Fig. 1`is an elevation of a partition and two walls connected together by two of the holders, embodyingthe present invention,` one of the holdersbeing illustrated in central vertical section.` i
Fig. 2 is a plan of fragments of the' partition androne of the walls, and showing the holder applied thereto.
Fig. 3 is a plan of a fragment of the other wall and the holder, with the partition removed therepartitions, one of which is seen at v9, `which partitions divide the counter or table into a plurality of bins for containing the merchandise to be displayed. l
The holder forming the subject matter of this specification is composed of resilient sheet metal and in the form illustrated is formed from a `blank lil (see Fig. 6) bent up as hereinafter described.
In its preferred form, theholder comprises a clip li `having a back l2 and two wings i3 that converge towards each other from the back and terminate in outwardly flaring extremities. The
clip is adapted to embrace and clasp an end porremoving the wall or partition, whereby the` holder will be rigidly held in any location by the weight of the wall or partition on theifeet. l The wings i3 of the clip ii and the feetV I6 extend in opposite directions from the wings l5; Desirably, the feet have rounded edges and their width is approximately one-half` of the thickness of the wall, whereby a holder on one side of the wall may be moved past the holderon the opposite side thereof, and in case the feet are wider than one-half of the wall, the rounded edges will permit the feet of one holder' to pass by those of the other. The holder may be put in place at the side of a wall or partition along its length without lifting or removing the wall or partition and is held in place by the latter in standing on the feet l.
In the back part designated by I2, I4, a tongue l'i is struck up from the metal and bent inwards towards the clip side of the holder The tongue is adapted to be engaged by the edge of the partition held by the holder. The partition is made slightly narrower than the distance between two walls 8, and when inserted into a pair of holders, embodying the present invention, the wings l5 are straightened out, more or less, and the tongues il are bent back whereby sufficient pressure is obtained between the walls, holder and partition to rigidly hold the partition in place.
Desirably, a bottom clip I8 is Provided below The wings the clip I3, into which the lower edge portion of the partition may be placed. The clip I8 comprises a horizontally extending bottom I9, which projects from the part I4, and two upwardly converging wings 20 that terminate directly below the'clip I3 and are formed with outwardly flaring edge portions. The clip I8 serves to steady the partition. It is to be understood that the spaces between the wings Vof the clips, I3, I8 are in vertical alignment so that the lower corners of the partition may be readily inserted into the two clips. The lower clip may be entirely dispensed with if desired, but when the holder is used with rather high partitions, it has been found desirable to employ the additional clip I8.
Fig. 6 illustrates the blank from which the form of holder illustrated is made. In forming the form of the holder, the wings I3 are bent down on the vertical dotted lines, a, the wings 2U are bent down on the dotted lines, b, and the bottom I9 is bent down on the dotted line, d. The feet are bent up on the dotted lines, c, and the tongue I1 is bent down slightly on the dotted line, e. The wings I5 are bent upwards slightly on the dotted lines, f. All of these parts may be bent up with one operation. Y
In Yuse, two holders are placed opposite each other between the walls 8 at any desired place, and the feet are thrust underneath the walls. The partition is then inserted into the clips I5, I8, and as a result, the wings I5 are straightened out, more or less, causing pressure against the walls, and the tongues Il are straightened out, more or less, causing pressure on the edges of the partition. Because of the resiliency of the parts, considerable pressure and friction are produced between the walls, holders andY partition, whereby the latteris rigidly held in upright position at its located place. If desired, the partition, together with the holders, may be slid along the counter top to adjust the partition to any other desired location.
The holder may be made of various sizes to accommodate partitions of different thicknesses and of different heights. A light gauge spring metal is used in the manufacture of the holders but its thickness may be increased or decreased as is found desirable for the particular size of holder required.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A holder for partitions and the like comprising a single piece formed of resilient material and composed of Ya clip for clasping a partition and having rearwardly divergent wall engaging Wings projecting therefrom and adapted for engagement with the side of a wall or partition, at least one of said wings having a foot adapted to extend underneath said wall or partition, Whereby the holder is removable and replaceably held in any located position by the wall or partition.
2. A holder for partitions and the like comprising a clip having a back part from which extends two converging wings, said back part extending down below the clip and having rearwardly divergent wings projecting therefrom and formed with horizontal rearwardly extending feet at their lower edges, and all of said elements being formed from a single piece of resilient metal.
3.- A holder for partitions and the like comprising a partition clasping clip and rearwardly divergent wall engaging wings projecting laterally therefrom and having horizontal feet at the lower edges adapted to extend under the wall, the clip and feet extending in opposite directions from the wings and all of said elements of the holder being formed of a single piece of resilient metal.
4. A holder for partitions and the like comprising a single piece formed of resilient metal and composed of a clip having a back part from which extend two converging wings for clasping a partition, rearwardly divergent wall engaging wings extending from said back part of the clip for engaging a wall or partition, feet on said last mentioned wings adapted to extend underneath Said wall or partition and a tongue formed on the back part of the clip extending in the direction of the two converging wings and adapted to engage an edge of the first mentioned partition.
5. A holder for .partitions and the like comprising a clip composed of a back part from which extend two converging wings, said back part extending down below the converging Wings and having rearwardly divergent Wings projecting therefrom and formed with horizontal feet at their lower edges and a tongue formed on said downwardly projecting part of the clip and bent in the same direction as the wings of the clip, all of said members being formed of resilient metal.
6. A holder comprising a single piece formed of resilient metal and composed of a clip having two converging Wings adapted to clasp a vertical edge portion of a partition, the clip having also a back part projecting below the wings, a second clip projecting from the lower end of said back part arranged to clasp the lower edge portion of said partition, there being transversely extending rearwardly divergent wings projecting from said back part, arranged to be pressed against a wall and having horizontally extending feet at their lower edges adapted to underlie said wall, whereby the holder is held in place thereby, and a tongue projecting from said back part in the direction of the converging wings of the first mentioned clip and adapted to press against thev edge of the partition.
